i used some big ass modpack, but i had to disable a few things like that new town to the far left because my fps was dropping to single digits. eventually i just went back and cherrypicked what i liked from the modpack and ended up with about 100

was some good shit still though

stardew has tons of mods for tiny mechanical QoL changes (like showing NPC faces on the map, or showing their favorite known gift in your inventory), new features that significantly change aspects of the game (like automation), built-in wiki shit if you're gonna wiki dive anyways, and even some that add dozens upon dozens of new characters or monsters or locations

game's incredibly modder friendly, insanely popular, and pretty cheap, so the mod scene kicks ass

Just trying to give you some good tips. You don't have to upload it to imgur anymore either, you can just paste it in the text box. I suggested they just allow literally any image imgedding from any site, but they couldn't figure that out I guess. They asked "which websites should we support?" and I was like "all of them??"

Same with Discord

But I'll check out the Stardew mods if they are really good. Did you scour and shop around for all of them or get a mod pack? I won't mod minecraft unless it's a mod pack, because the base game is just so boring and the mod pack alters the gameplay.

Whenever I try to post shit here that isn't imgur it always tells me the file is too big. Maybe you're a wizard.

I just go on smapi.io and Nexus Mods and browse things I like. There are quite a few QOL ones I download every time I reinstall and then I do different visual mods whatever I see and like at the time.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of mods. Part of why I think Bethesda games are shit since you need 50 mods to get an actual game out of them.

A lot of it comes from them breaking whenever the game gets updated. I had a ton of cosmetic stuff for ''X-COM 2'' until ''War of the Chosen'' broke all of them. Even though they were only cosmetics, I still put down the game because I wanted my really fancy soldiers.

Then don't update the game for the 1-2 months it takes for mods to get updated. You had the choice to make the game better in one of two ways (patch it and play without mods, or keep playing with mods for a better experience than vanilla), and you instead chose to not play the game anymore?

Same.

Though honestly, there aren't all that many mods on PC that I consider to be all that must-have anyway. About the only one that's ever really appealed to me is the Stardew Valley Expanded one that adds more NPCs, locations, and quest stuff.

Those are probably the two best options, IMO.

Straughan posted...

Ehh, there's nothing really inherently wrong with it. About the only thing it changes is missing one scene, since almost everything you get from having the Community Center fixed you also get from having the Joja Warehouse. And going the Joja route gives you the option to buy Auto-Petters from Joja, which you can only get by getting lucky and finding them in the Skull Cavern otherwise (and they're pretty rare there).

Sure, you don't get the bundle rewards if you go with Joja, but most of those kind of suck anyway. And Joja gives you a Soda Machine you can't get otherwise. And it's generally easier to speed-run some of the improvements via gold than it is via completing bundles.

(And if you want to be a bit cheaty you can do both - fill the easier bundles and get stuff early, then buy the Joja membership to buy the harder bundles via gold).

Straughan posted...

It's not like PC is hugely more advanced than the PS4 version. The PC version gets updates first, but the console versions get them shortly after. At the moment the two versions are pretty close to similar in terms of features.

Sarcasthma posted...

Seeing that Achievement is pretty much why I decided I was never going to bother platinum-ing the game. I was like "No fucking way."

I've pretty much never bothered playing it other than in Abigail's heart scene. And Junimo Kart can go fuck itself with a rusty spork. In the ass. Sideways.

That was always my response when people talked about how great Bethesda games were, when they almost always had to fall back on mods as justification. "If you need to mod a shitty game to make it worth playing, it's still a shitty game."

Yes and no. The company that produced it should still be held accountable for producing a broken piece of trash that needs user-created fixes to be basically functional, but if the game is enjoyable after putting in the effort to mod it, you're still playing an enjoyable game and acting like you aren't because it took that effort doesn't make much sense. It's a caveat that should be included in recommending the game, and that caveat can result in the game comparably less favourably overall to others (namely, a game that's equally enjoyable but doesn't require any extra effort).

That said, I think there's something to be said for creating a base game that's flexible enough for modding to be an option. The developer obviously can't take credit for the mods themselves, but being able to mod a game to customize the experience is generally a very good thing for replay value and maximizing enjoyment, and not every game is feasible to mod. Finding that balance between having a good fundamental structure for modders to build on while make sure the base game still has enough content to be enjoyable can be a challenge, so I think developers that achieve that balance should be applauded for it. For all Bethesda needs to step up their QA game, they have generally done a good job of creating worlds and engines that are worth creating additional content within, and that is actually an achievement.

I'm still baffled as to why they went with putting a challenging trophy like that into such a chill game.

I'd definitely recommend getting any farming, managing, city building, multiple settlement type game on PC. Not only for modding, but consoles still struggle with memory where PCs have vast arrays of bulk memory to play with. This is the difference in Minecraft Java with 3 million personal cows vs like 50 max or so on console bedrock as well as bogging the system cycle down.

Any RTS game, any game with massive amounts of units doing anything dynamic to the environment all for pc. I can't even think of console games that have gotten around this memory problem. Usually takes top tier programming like a Kojima team and 5 years to get it done right.

The Sims 4. If you had the thousands of dollars needed to buy all the content for console, I guarantee you, there would be build problems ans bugs galore where PC has a vibrant community that even fixes crap the development never do.

When I play The Sims, I generally never use the dlc content. Even with Sims 1. The only part of it I use are the added furniture and building pieces for the home.

The only real thing I like to do is to focus on one family, beat the single player content as far as achievements and unlockables then buy the biggest plot to make a super mansion.

Then I plot out the neighborhood with custom families, using the default I like and deleting the rest. Last I just have fun watching them interact and see what they do along with making friends with the main couple I play.

With 4 I ended up farming a lot and made lots of money.

One thing I'd like to see in future Sims games is automated sim plots. Like, put a sim or two on a plot and they can grow and build it themselves. Then, I'd make a shitload of money and give it to all of them anonymously so they could all go from poor to rich. That would be fucking fun. It would be like people crops and watering them with money.

I'm more surprised by the actual video evidence on YouTube of people torturing their sims lol. I'm sweet to my simmies.

I think the most sadistic thing I did was trap a sim in glass and then the game bugged out and I couldn't remove the glass wall thingies. I had to reload.

I woohoo'd a hired piano lady to death, but to be fair she came on to me first. I didn't know she had heart problems. I did marry her ghost and bring her back though. It took some effort. I had to use console commands to de-age her. There was some reason why the oldest age couldn't workout. I forget why.

The one real game of The Sims I tried was The Asylum... where basically you put 8 adult sims in a house, and slowly drive them insane by not having enough for all of them. 7 beds, etc. And each time one dies, you cut down on the amenities. You keep going until there's only 1 left.
