I feel ya. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. I totally fucked myself by not job hopping a bit when I was younger and still living with my parents.

I never minded office work, honestly. Even before being full-time work from home. The secret is to take frequent breaks to split up the monotony, and to stay busy so you aren't just left with your own thoughts. Also helps if you have people in the office you like chatting with, or going out to lunch with. Just sitting in front of a computer all day and "doing your job" is going to get tiring fast. It is the perks afforded an office job that you don't get with other type of work that you should be looking forward to.

and to stay busy so you aren't just left with your own thoughts.

A friend of mine had one of those types of jobs where sometimes you're overworked and doing like three times as much as you're capable of because everything comes in all at once, and then the other half of the time you're sitting around going crazy because there's literally nothing to do because you're waiting on other people.

Once he realized that he used to download books to his tablet and would read whenever he didn't have work to do. And for a while he was also working on writing a novel in his spare time.

See this is what annoys me about the office workers I've worked around. They tell me how busy they are and constantly complain everything when I know the reality is most of the time they aren't doing shit lol. This isn't directed at any of you guys by the way

I wish I could get away with that. At my job, Im the only one manning the phone like 99% of the time so I dont get the luxury of just stepping away from my desk, chatting with people, going on breaks (aside from my unpaid lunch), etc. But I get to see everybody else in other departments walking around doing whatever.

And its in like a big open area too so I dont even get privacy.

Buuut for the life of me I cant find anything better so

I know two people who quit office work for a trade (both sparky's) and neither of them regretted their decision. One was early on (early twenty's) and the other was in his 30's.

I love my office job, personally. It's so cool to sit inside at home alone all day staring at a light box. The best part is it's about the only kind of work that lets me afford to have a roof over my head, so I get to look forward to 30 more years of this exciting lifestyle!

Lol well I kind of get what people are saying and feel that way myself, though I don't know if busy is the right term. It's really the lack of being busy that's the problem. Now yeah I can do stuff like look at my phone a lot while at my desk but that isn't exactly my ideal way to spend my time. There are tons of days where I feel like I basically could do nothing but I just know that if I ever tried to like step away from the desk and go somewhere then a bunch of coworkers are going to hit me up with requests

I like being actually busy at work because it makes the day go way faster. I'm losing my mind with this halfway shit being bored but still feeling chained to the computer

I've disliked most of my jobs. It's exhausting being in the middle of it, but I definitely recommend applying for trade schools. It's an easy out when you get in. Try to pick a trade that pays for your schooling, I know a lot of electrician companies do that here in Canada.

When I went to school for a diploma, I said fuck it and took out a student loan. Almost have it paid off - it felt goofy going into debt, but it was a way to gain some upward mobility.

Yeah, that's right. Where I live I think you need to do school and apprenticeship.

If I had any kind of half-working brain, thats what I would have done out of high school, but at 35, I dont really have much desire to do physical labor after my years of grocery work really wore me out. Plus, my goal is to spend less time working. Im in the HVAC industry now and during busy time, I see these techs working crazy hours and I have absolutely no desire to do that.

That's why I hate the sgts and above where I work. They complain about how hard their job is and how much shit they gotta do but yet they sit around bullshitting 3-4 hours a night.

Yeah my job involves a lot of sitting around and doing seemingly nothing too but it's my job to watch the inmates constantly. And shit can go sideways any moment. They ain't gotta deal with that like us.

Working from home is great for jobs like that. It makes easy (perhaps a little too easy) to put in a bit of overtime if needed to handle the busy times without completely destroying your ability to have a life outside of work, and when there's downtime, you can just treat it like actual time off and either get things done around the house or slack off properly.
