To me, this is foreplay.

It works pretty well imo. Obviously it can be done poorly, but it adds a connection to the move.

I always really liked that first episode with the red haired villain in the Jackie Chan cartoon. He shouts out his attacks like an anime guy, but later he shouts out different attacks than what he's doing to screw with Jackie and beat him up.

In anime, it depends. If they're shooting energy beams after a speech and stuff, we've already crossed a line of silliness. Shouting out attack names is the least goofy thing happening. I'm cool with it then

I don't mind it but I like when there is a reason for it.

Bleach, Slayers, amd Fate come to mind.

Bleach ties power to the name. Knowing the name of a technique made itnstronger as did declaring it. In Slayers everything was magic so the names were the most basic forms of spell incantations. And Fate they served as identifiers of the users.

It's usually pretty funny.
And I like that.

Its the best part, and one of the few negatives to dbz super. They never shout "super saiyan 3!" when they're transforming or "ascended super saiyan!"

And it shows. The anime is clearly missing something, some oomph to make it feel complete

Like that one scene in bleach where they had to use a full incantation for a high level "spell" (or whatever they call them)

The person doing the move shouldn't be stating or announcing it, that's literally annoucing your attack to your enemy.

It's silly and dumb.

The Narrator of the show can state it for the audience or a outside device could do it for the person in particular.

It's kind of understandable in Bleach because their swords are sentient beings and they're just telling them to do the thing.

Yeah i like it when they do it swift and clear. Like the ones in fighting games, Ryu shouting Hadoken while executing it.

Hate it when they took a long time like 30 minutes to launch a Kamehameha.

Damn it I could read that in anime voice too.

I typically don't enjoy those shows. Nit so much because they announce their attacks. From my personal experience, the shows using that particular trope also have many other aspects in common that stop me from enjoying the show. Regardless of the setting or story, there has been a common feel to these shows that I don't enjoy. It just commonly shows up with many of the other anime tropes that I can't stand.

Yeah, imagine that scene in Gurren Lagann without the attack name, you know the one, where the episode ended with epic shade transformation, even the transformation announcement was amazing.

I also like how DBZ Abridged lampshaded this by having characters name their attacks because they think it sounds cool

No. Usually the characters have a very small pool of moves so while saying it once makes sense for the viewers sake, mutiple times in one fight though is just stupid.

We know what the damn move is already. No need to shout it repeatedly.

I did think it was funny as hell in Overlord when a guy charged a warrior in a sneak attack, shouted his attack name, and promptly got cut in half with the warrior going If youre going to sneak up on me, do it quietly!

It's dumb, but I'm used to it.

Besides, if they never did it you'd have thousands of weebs badgering the writers for the name.

It's a dramatic flourish. Unrealistic and tactically awful, yes. But it sounds awesome when used sparingly.
