I'm pretty sure they did, it's just so well received that it didn't really grab hold. I think that kind of stupid-ass rhetoric only really grabs attention when the actual product is kind of flawed like She-Hulk or (in some opinions) Starfield.

Most people play video games at least casually nowadays. Theyre not a fringe hobby anymore. To qualify as a gamer you need to go far beyond doing it as a casual pastime. Its more a culture than a hobby.

Because most gamers aren't the vocal minority of loud, prejudiced, hateful, and immature idiots whose attention-grabbing antics turned "gamer" into a four-letter word.

Said idiots appear to have either somehow missed Baldur's Gate III entirely, or all the positive buzz around it drowned them out.

Because it's not made by Americans. That infamous "pronoun rant" was as much about the game being made in America as it was about pronouns.

Even if a few grifters want to complain about Baldur's Gate 3, the fact that the game is so rich in content and player choice that OTHER DEVELOPERS ARE COMPLAINING is some of the best video game news in years. That alone is why we should all be heavily invested in this game succeeding so much that it sends other developers the message that they need to see this game as the new standard in terms of content (they won't sadly, but we should try anyway).

Beastiality is ok with that crowd, but LGBTQ characters (and people in the real world) exists and they lose their minds over it.

I think the game is so good that people look past the woke stuff.

I saw an example in another thread that had a dude raging into the camera and he hadn't even got past chargen in Starfield.

There's no way he could have known what was prioritized. And there were no other games in the series.

I don't think it's about the quality of the game.

They are lazy, relying on an old broken engine, knowing their fans will fix most of the problems so they don't hate to.

Generally when game is bad it's not because "it's woke" that's just used as an excuse.

The accurate answer is that outcries about woke stuff only ever happens when something is popular. Whenever it's not the flavour of the month it'll be dropped because it never really mattered to begin with. Starfield had more hype behind it, so its more profitable to complain about, so its more "woke".

Add to that Baldur's Gate didn't really have a huge amount of hype going into it, at least compared to Starfield. There was some hype for sure, but a lot of that came after release when the game was really good. We might circle back to this in a little while when BG3 comes to Xbox Series X/S, since Starfield kind of overshadowed the PS5 release.

It's more that snowflakes aren't into traditional CRPGs. Hence why you never hear about it from that genre and instead it's basically always something like a FPS that gets the big sad out of them.

No video game examples but rings of power interviews went on forever about how diverse it was going to be like that's the only thing LOTR fans cared about. Then the show came out and butchered the lore and the show was written like a CW show. Characters were the wrong age, galadriel acted like she didn't have a husband, solo'ed an ice cave troll when it took the entire fellowship to beat one. There was no traveling time consistency. The would be a character that took a week to get one place and then and another episode someone else would be there the next day when the plot needed it.

The D&D/fantasy fanbase most likely has less toxic masculinity than sci-fi

Expecting consistency from outrage merchants is like expecting them to have a backbone. They have neither.
