There are plenty of 4chan JoJo fans.

I mean, it is weird, but also normal.

There are bigots who are fans of stuff that makes no sense all the time because it's "cool" or "fun". No deeper meaning or thought process beyond that.

They've introduced their first straight up Trans character in the 8th part (season). You should not be shocked about the transphobes coming up now, because they really didn't have an occasion to show it previously.

Not weird. Jojo has a huge fanbase. It was unfortunately inevitable that bigots joined the fandom as it grew

It's part 9 and I'm stupid. Dragona is mtf, at least as far as I know.

There's a segment of people who think Jojo "went gay" around part 4 or 5 and resent it for it, as silly as that sounds.

Then there's another somewhat overlapping group that think part 9 "went woke" due to referencing Covid and Gen Z music and making Jojo's sibling gender non conforming.

No transpeople but there cross dressers in part 8. As in explicitly so instead of just clothes that look like extravagant fashion model wear.

It is unconfirmed in the text.

What we know about Dragona:

Jodio calls them his "bro".
Dragona speaks in feminine language.
Dragona had work done on their boobs.

Given the structure of the Japanese language, those are all the clues we have to go on. Japanese doesn't have "pronouns" in the way English does. The grammatical clue is that Dragona uses Japanese language typically associated with femininity, but not necessarily exclusively used by women.

It follows a pretty understandable line if you've been there from the start. 4chan used to do a yearly hatewatch of MLP. So, already a bunch of toxic misogynists going in with the intent to hate a thing made for girls. And then it turns out to be pretty good! So rather than take any of the show's actual lessons to heart they make up shit like "only real men watch the small horse show". Y'know. Doubling down on the misogyny of it all.

And yeah, those kind of people turning out to be a bunch of alt-right dipshits as time went on makes perfect sense. They were never paying attention to the show's themes of love and kindness. They were making jokes about "tolerance" while fluttershy snaps a bear's neck or something.

Way before /mlp/ was even a board. They used to watch the older shows. Gen 4 I think it was was what changed 4chan's attitude towards the series.

Reminds me of people who hate the Witcher yet direct shows about it.

The author is entirely aware of how much overlap there is in the Venn diagram of wanting to fight someone and wanting to fuck them.

There are trans people that are anti trans so idk, nothing is weird anymore. People just suck.

I've been in the Jojo fanbase for quite sometime and most of us are pro-trans, but there is a very mix reception regarding MtF trans participating in female sports.

Though I will say that anime fans in general I wouldn't be surprised if any of them are anti-trans. There's a whole weeb movement about why Japan is a superior country than any western countries like how they're very monoethnic country with low crime rates, how feminists/sjw's haven't ruined their entertainment yet, gay marriage still criminalized under law, etc. So honestly, no surprise there's a big alt right movement in the anime community in general.

The old version of Jojo hid its camp under the veneer of 80s hyper-masculinity by fashioning its characters after professional wrestlers, hair metal bands, and action stars.

Modern Jojo openly celebrates its camp and the androgyny of its characters.

I can see there being two camps: one made up of the older fandom who are in denial and the newer fandom who can understand the subtext as text in both versions.
