You hang your coat up one rainy day after going to something you have to do at a tall building.

Unbeknownst to you, the coat fell off the hook onto the floor moments later. A fat guy walks into the room, trips over your coat and stumbles out a window in a freak accident. He lands on a yellow fire hydrant and dies on impact.

Later when you get home you find a shifty man in a suilt identifying himself only as Joey Wheels waiting for you. He is carrying a briefcase which he opens to reveal $80,000 in cash. He slides it over to you.

"Nice work kid, Tony Lazuto didn't realize word got out so fast about the hit. And you even made it look like an accident, no one is asking questions. Mr Lazuto was impressed kid, he even threw in a little extra." and that's when you notice the Rolex Watch among the dollar bills.

Would you take it?

Joey Wheels is already starting to leave.

I'd give that shit back and tell him I didn't see anything, I don't know anything and that we never even met today, then bid him good day.

Why? Because one, if I take it it means they think I'm a hitman and would come to me with another "job" later, criminals rarely are a one and done deal, two, by returning it and making it clear I'm a civilian who wants nothing to do with this they won't kill me for "ripping them off" later when they realize I'm not a hitman, three, I'd be fucking terrified because in an incident like that no way would the police not be following me around because the circumstances of death are too "clean" for such a powerful figure especially one that was targeted for assassination and finally, suddenly being that much richer would make people ponder especially if you're wearing one of the most expensive watches around, especially if you try to sell that shit knowing your background and I can't even hide the money because I live with family. There's no win taking that money and there's no win in just letting mr. wheels think you're a hitman

smart option would be to not take it. Accepting payment opens you up to an extreme world of hurt and no one thats on GameFAQs is about that life, you'll end up either dead or in prison.

Nah.

Ill-gotten means aside, taking money from the mob and it being a misunderstanding is just asking for being indebted to the mob, and that's the best case scenario. You'd have to make baller money off that money to pay them back if they ever found out you 'stiffed' them and that's providing they don't just kill you for taking their money.

Now if they kind of knew it was a pure accident but were willing to pay you hush money and take the blame within their circles, that might be worth $80K but you also gotta be on your toes cause any disaffected family of the deceased or friends of the family may gun for you.

I don't think admitting it was an accident after all of that was revealed to me would help me at all.

with that kind of information, if they found out I wasn't a hitman, and was a civilian instead, they would likely kill me so I wouldn't snitch.

This was my first thought as well. They would eventually realize that the real hitman didn't get their money, or even if they somehow didn't figure that out, they would still keep a close eye on you for future jobs, or to make sure you don't talk. It really isn't a scenario which you "win" from.

Wesley would absolutely refuse the money

He's a good guy

Would probably report Joey Wheels to the cops too for whatever that is worth

If I'm reading the prompt correctly, you *are* the real hitman. The only difference is that you didn't know you were even doing a hit and it was a complete accident. So there's no problems there - the only problem is that they think you're a hitman when it was just a complete accident. So they might come to you in the future.

If you had some way of contacting the guy they originally hired for the job it'd be a no-brainer, just apologize and give him half the money(or however much he wants) so you don't have to worry about him murdering you. Otherwise definitely no deal.

Yes there was no specifically hired Hitman. It was a bounty placed on the guys head and you axed him almost right away.

But there's no reason that all these people who are scared that they took someone else's contact would know that.
