So far got Celine and Opera, which means I get Operas hubby? I kinda want Welch tho. And dunno who to choose between Precis and Bowman. Plan to get Dias and Chisato too (who I know is late game and I can only have a certain amount of party members when I reach her)

If you think this is bad you should try the Suikoden series.

I always preferred Bowman in game to Precis but hardly used either. Ashton teaches a move to Precis and Precis teaches a move to Welch, so those 3 are usually picked together on a playthrough.

? Thats not even comparable, as you can recruit everyone in one playthrough, at least in the first couple. Ever since the first Star Ocean, its schtick has been that you cant do that and have to do more than one playthrough to recruit everyone.

On topic, Im doing my 4th playthrough of Triangle Strategy now, because thats the minimum it takes to get everyone.

In the first 2, yes. I havent played 3-5, but am jazzed for Eiyuden Chronicle.

Chrono Cross would have been a better comparison. Probably Radiata Stories as well, though Im just going by what Ive heard there.

Not really complaining or thinking it's bad. Just tryna gage who's most useful. Or amazing personality and worth to the story even if they're slightly not as good as the other option

Missables/exclusive character choices give me analysis paralysis in video games.

I kinda hate how I feel about it, I remember not caring at all as a kid, playing through RPGs and not worrying about points of no return or missing optimal items and stuff. Now though I get antsy when games lock stuff away behind choices/missed stuff. Have a hard time enjoying games now without being concerned I missed something I'll want down the line.

No you can't. In 5 your forced to make choices. Certain choices will prevent you from getting other characters, and there is no new game+. The better example is Chrono Cross which locks characters behind both character choices and in-game events. If you choose 1 option for Kidd you'll miss out on another character.

Chrono Cross at least has the option to unlock the previously unlocked character on the 2nd playthrough.

Also, tell me why I expected Opera to be a pure long ranger but her normal attacks has her running up to the enemy to smack them with her rifle

If you want Precis, you need Ashton. If you want Welch, you need Precis, so you should get Ashton as well.

Recruit Chisato, trust me.

After Salvia mines, and a certain point before going to the other continent, you can talk to two sailors at one of the port towns. They will mention slaying a dragon. Travel back to the mines, and you can recruit. There is a sidequest in the mountains (great place to grind).

You dont have to do bad things to get the other ones.

From what I'm hearing about R it doesn't honestly matter who you pick because everyone is good now. Pick whoever you want.

I remember liking Precis back then. I just thought her and her inventions were humorous. She also used a Playstation controller so that was a comical meta thing.

I don't know if I'd like her as much now since I'm a lot older and angrier since Star Ocean: 2nd Story on the PSX came out. I'll absolutely try the remake someday. It's just meh I was looking for something to play months ago I coulda used that release then.

Are you playing on a harder difficulty? I love playing Ashton, but Universe difficulty is making it difficult to enjoy as much as I used to.
