The writing is phenomenal. I picked up the complete edition on sale for $15, and it's well worth it. It definitely has some repetitive shit in it, but the writing, even in the dlc missions, is amazing. I heard at launch about a lot of it's technical problems, but those are fixed now apparently. It's had almost 10gb of patches lol. There's outfits now, and car customization.

For $15 I am able to overlook the repetitive stuff to enjoy the fuck out of the story. It's a damn shame it had to be that way though. A 7/10 game with a 10/10 story.

Seriously, if you can find it cheap, it's worth it, or just watch all the story on YouTube or something, it's well worth seeing.

It always seemed to me that the Mafia series is all about the story and then there's very little side activity to do, which is kind of disappointing in most open world games :\
Am really tempted to pick this up though, it's on sale for $20... just bought AC Origins at full price though.

Yeah I'm near the end of origins now. Mafia 3 has more to do than mafia 1 and 2, but it's still not a lot.

One of my fave games of recent memory. I like it so much I'm playing it again to get all the achievements for a friend. The dlc and patches really made a good game way better.

I have a few rules when I play;

1. Anytime anyone says something racist to me on the streets they have to get knocked out. Regardless of where I am or what I'm doing.
2. I always have the strongest weapons and best car for the job. So silenced pistol and knives if I'm going stealth into a mission. Or high powered rifle and explosives along with the small shotgun for big crowds.
3. I leave mines right where my sub bosses people will drive up to take over a racket when I call it in. This is just for fun though.

Mafia 2 was alright. I gave up about an hour in, in the first police chase, because the cops were rubberbanding worse than in Mario Kart.

It's actual story missions are good, it's the income damaging activities that are repetitive. Think saints row 2, how you had to do a certain number of side things to unlock the next story mission.

Like I said, it's worth watching the story on YouTube if you don't want to play it.

I love Mafia 3. I'm even playing it right now. I know it's repetitive, but I love the gameplay and combat. I like finding different ways to takeover turf and kill the bad guys. I've replayed through the game several times now.

And the story and characters are pretty good. The writing has always been the strongest part of the Mafia series. I really hope the bad press hasn't killed Mafia 4 completely.

Ok, I just beat it again last night and I'd totally forgotten that weirdness with the songs on the radio. Wth was up with that nonsense? You start the final mission and until you finish the bit in the casino, and get back in your car, the radio is full of garbage versions of great songs. Was that the devs or their friends playing those covers? They were awful. Although, I really liked that song during the end credits. That was really good and I don't recall that being in the game prior to the credits.

Oh, and I'd also forgotten the part after the credits where Donovan reveals he was involved because of the JFK assassination. Wow! He is such a cool character.
