Fallout 4 was perfectly fine. It wasn't as good as Fallout 3 or Skyrim, but it was still plenty of fun for 60+ hours.

I thought I would, but it just didn't have as much going for it. It somehow had less to do than skyrim, and it's dlcs, aside from nuka world, were pretty disappointing. The factions were lame, the story was lame, there wasn't much point in exploration beyond getting crafting components, the settlement management was annoying. Etc.

Bethesda had clearly been growing more complacent over the years. It's gotten to the point where the games they publish are better than the games they're developing.

For Fallout 4, I felt it went wrong when you had to babysit settlements along with terrible upgrade choices when you leveled up. If I was a developer, I would put unique upgrades in the game instead of mostly damage upgrades. For example, unlockable pet drone (separate from companion), melee weapons get a dot, fire, knockback, slow, stun effect; bullets have a chance to explode, able to hover for 5-10 seconds, able to teleport 5-10m ahead, ect... What I'm saying is there was no fun upgrades to unlock.

True, I disliked the fact that it was closer to the bazillion survival crafting games than an actual fallout game. I hate those ark survival evolved type games.

I'm the opposite, I think Skyrim was extremely boring and could never really get into it, but I loved Fallout 4 and had a great time with it. I can't disagree with pretty much all of the criticisms I've heard about the game though, but I still like it, despite its flaws.

Strong disliked that.

Fallout 4 in a bubble was a pretty fun game. The combat was the best so far in a Bethesda game and the quests were fun to run and gun through. I consider it a better game than Fallout 3 in almost every single way.

As an entry in the Fallout franchise however? Ugh. This just isn't a great RPG. It's more like an open world FPS.

Fallout New Vegas is probably the most ideal Fallout sequel we're gonna get.

Arkane would do a good job with it too thinking about it. They're under Bethesda so it's possible. I want Fallout to be a game that gives complete agency to the player and having cool attention to detail and Arkane did a great job with this in Prey.

I like both of them. For everything Fallout did wrong, it did two things right, at least in my opinion.

I still maintain that Obsidian should take the engine they built for Pillars and use it on a new Fallout game. Wasteland 2 is good, but it's not Fallout. Give it to us, please.

Also, I really liked Skyrim. I'm a sucker for high fantasy, and being able to explore and walk the peaks of Skyrim was awesome. I can't do the same thing with Fallout games, because the world isn't that engaging; it's the people's reaction to the world that brings the interest.

No. I replayed new Vegas recently after another fallout 4 run, and new Vegas is still far superior, especially patched with mods on pc.

New Vegas sure, I'd say it's about on par with Skyrim maybe a bit better though I do tend to favor the Fallout world over Elder Scrolls so I do have bias.

No there was never any cycle. New Vegas was criticized early on for bugs, but I think most recognized it as clearly a superior game to Fallout 3 within the first year it was released. I don't know what CE specifically thought, but this is just one board.

Anyway, Fallout 4 is unplayable for me. It just felt so bad.

According to who? Skyrim, i understand. They fully used up that gen's resource to deliver a monster of a game. But F4 copied NV and surpassed it.

Yes there was, people gave F3 flak, because they took the helms from another dev, even moreso with the ever present Beth game bugs, NV came in, copied everything from F3 and rushed out a nonsensical plot, with arguably some of the dumbest leaders in Fallout (Caesar, Kimbell, House e.t.c).

Just look at metacritic and GOTY awards to see how superior F3 is to NV.
