Yeah a lot of newer cars have "stop/start" engines now. It's more efficient - the "it takes more gas to start" thing is an old wives tale, there's absolutely no science behind it at all.

Usually that actually means that their car stalled out and needs to be taken in to the mechanic.

Yeah hybrids definitely do that. I noticed it on a hybrid bus. The engine stops in the back and then when the bus starts driving it makes a comical electric whirring sound and eventually the engine kicks back on when going up an incline
