Their ultimate end goals are effectively identical to the ones of the assassins, the only difference is the methods.

The assassins always cause chaos and destruction pretty much every single time they try to do something. Entire cities have been destroyed due to assassin meddling with the first civ tech. The templars always study the shit first before they fucking just go ahead and use it.

Also, fun fact, canonical lore for the series apparently had the templars actively trying to prevent both world wars, but the assassins apparently inadvertently led to them happening.

The templars may try to ultimately use first civ tech for control and power, but their goal is ultimately stability and order. They're about the status quo, the assassins are about chaos and "freedom".

Seriously it's staggering how often the assassins fuck things up.

Desmonds entire struggle/life was pointless. him using the orb thingy in ac3 to save the world, freed juno back into the world. The templars were working on a way to bring her back but keep her contained. Both would have led to her protecting the world in exchange for her being brought back, but now she's loose to do as she pleases. .

Rogue did a pretty good job of showing some perspective. The assassins routinely use criminal gangs to do what they need to do.

Also, it's cannon in Syndicate that Jacob is fucking jack the ripper.

LOL no he's not, my god this is so factually wrong it isn't funny, if you actually played that DLC you would know Jack kidnapped Jacob and was trained by Jacob, his mother was killed by Starrick's men and he was sent to an asylum. Jacob liberated the asylum and trained Jack because he felt guilty that Jack's mother was killed because she was an innocent he could not save.

Jack was an apprentice of Jacob's but he is not Jacob Frye nor has he ever been.

Even in Rogue the Templars were total mustache twirlers and the Assassins literally just goofed instead of being evil or whatever.

At least rogue, black flag, origins, and odyssey have been good. Syndicate just was repetitive. Unity was trash. Odyssey is probably the best the series has ever been gameplay wise.

Pfft, it just took the more=better approach of Origins, except instead of adding to the base gameplay they just added more busy side stuff
