tl;dr version: What do you think needs to be improved, and what suggestions do you have for it?
I'm looking for suggestions and ideas for improvements to the Board 8 Wiki. From what I've gathered, here are some concerns I have seen:
1. Complaints against the administrators because of page edits/reverts/deletions. As the Board 8 Wiki is bound by the Wikia ToU and the GameFAQs ToU (to a lesser extent), there is not much that can be done in terms of changing rules and such. Still, if there is something you want to see done, by all means post about it!
2. Improper categorization. When the Wiki was young, I let people be relatively free to create categories and categorize their pages. Now I've seen some complaints about the categories being inconsistent and such. Aside from a cleanup project, what ideas do you have about this?
3. The Phoenix Wright logo and the main page. I have been told that PW is no longer a popular enough character for him to represent the board on the Board 8 Wiki. I've also been told that the main page is a mess. Obviously, we will likely either remove the Article of the Week or actually run it (maybe a board project?), but aside from that, how do you feel about it? How about the logo?
If you have any suggestions for those concerns, or if you have other concerns, please bring them up. You can post in this topic (preferred), PM me, or IM me (AIM/Yahoo!/Steam: Zachnorn).
I'd like to see the Wiki be more... complete - I think most of the user pages are way too short. I realize this is a rather vague complaint, though >_>
Related to this, I'd like to rewrite my own page - there's a lot more to say about me than the short article that's there. But writing about myself would probably feel weird <_<;
If you need help with editing Zachnorn, I have a good amount of wiki editing experience, as I am an administrator on another wiki.
I will let you know, thanks!
Where it gets tricky is likely the amount of uncategorized contests: Disney Characters, VGMusic, MEFCC, etc. Maybe having subcategories there would work well? Just some ideas.
Those could be put in an "Other Projects" category. I am thinking all of the categories you mentioned would be subcategories of "Projects" or something similar.
I suggested this to lefty but I have absolutely no idea how plausible it would be... would it be possible to implement some sort of rotating, randomly selected logo? It would be cool to see something different among the match pic selection, for instance. That's probably ludicrously implausible, but again, just a suggestion. >_>
I don't think that is possible, but if it is a popular enough idea, I could ask Wikia to make sure. It might be possible to make a .gif image, but it will not be random, and might be distracting.
As far as the logo goes, I'd be in favor of a neutral, not-referring-to-anything-in-particular logo. A more specific logo will just end up representing one of the subcultures here. But Ed's "rotating logo" idea could work too.
If we have to pick a new logo, we probably should stick with something that embodies the board...and I think what brings us all together is the site contests, right? So, since we have a huge repository of them, why not pick a few match pics to be our wiki logo? For example...
Would anybody object to something like that headlining the wiki?
One catch-all 'Projects' category might work, but I imagine it would get unwieldy with all the subcategories. Then again, having a mess of initial categories would probably be pretty difficult to standardize and find stuff in. So your idea probably works better! Where would Lists and Topic Series (like Contest Stats and Discussion) go though? I don't know if you could consider those projects or not.
I think most people would consider them projects. I personally do. Also, I'm not quite sure what you mean about it being unwieldy. Can you elaborate?
A gif would probably be more than a little distracting, yeah. I was thinking more along the lines of, say, Overclocked Remix's logos, which rotate randomly between a bunch of different video game characters each time you visit or refresh the page. But again I don't know how that would work with Wikia.
I know that a wiki's picture is set by having a picture with the name wiki.png. I don't think it would allow me to set multiple logos. Although, it is possible for someone particularly good with web design and wiki skills to put a logo there with a script or something, but then that could be an issue if Wikia has something against that.
I like the Phoenix logo, but you were going to change it to something else I definitely think it has to be Yoblazer's Sandbag match pic. Best of the best, IMHO.

I was thinking that there would be multiple pages to navigate through to find a particular project (Projects -> User Contests -> User of the Year), but it's probably not even that big of a deal.
It would be better than having a giant list. Although, that is possible, too. It can be both ways. For example, User of the Year could be in both the Projects category and User Contests category. If you like big lists, you can go look for it in Projects. If you want to refine it, then go into User Contests.
Obviously Ulti from fr0q's comics should be on the logo
But then the Board 8 Wiki would be literally obsessed with Ulti!
Maintaining a giant list like that might be cumbersome, especially if it has to be manually updated every time something new gets added. I wonder if that's the case though - TVTropes seems to have somewhat automated processes for adding things to their lists.
It would have to be manually updated. Although TVTropes can do it automatically, they also use a different program for their wiki needs. We use MediaWiki, and it looks like they use something else.
You should stop *****ing out on content that "may be" offensive, but we all know that will never happen.
It won't happen because during times that I didn't get involved with it, people would complain to Wikia. As long as we are hosted by Wikia, we have to operate under their rules. I could just not act on certain things, but what would happen is that a Wikia admin would act for me. I think it is better that Wikia sees that we're maintaining the Board 8 Wiki, rather than have them feel like they need to do what they see as my job.
Yeah, I am for cleaning up the categories. The topic series that Inherited all belonged to like 3-4 different categories and when I made new ones, I looked up various categories to see what kinds of topics were included and I was confused after seeing no ordered classification and thus put my new series into 3-4 categories as well
