As you may know, Angry Birds managed to land on IGN's "Top 100 Modern Games" list, at #93. To me, the reactions to its placement have been really interesting; some think it's too low, while others think it's crazy that it made the list at all. So, I'm curious: what do you think about the game? Do you think it's just a novelty, or legitimately good gaming?
Personally, I think it rocks. For my money, it's one of the best casual games to date: while many other major casual titles seem solely aimed at non-gamers (see: Wii Sports), I think the various nuances, surprising originality, and humor of Angry Birds help it appeal to non-gamers and the hardcore alike. Plus, those birds are just so damn lovable.

Good game, but there are much better ones, such as Cut the Rope, Tiny Wings, and Fruit Ninja. My problem with Angry Birds is that it's much less about skill, and more about trial-and-error; then again, there's a TON of content, so for the price it's an absolute steal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBpfwpOPXNc&NR=1&feature=fvwp I watch Planet Chasers Starlight Excellent all day, every day.
And there have been worse killer apps. Like Death Jr. Better a good Flash game than a terrible console-style third-person shooter. On a related note, what the hell is with World of Goo being so incredibly popular? It really didn't keep my interest for long after I bought it.

I've never played it, but watching my non-gaming friends all play it and discover what it feels like to get into a game for the first time has been awesome.

I do find it funny that the creator comes out and says a lot of things as if tweaking a free flash game suddenly makes him an expert on video games, though!

It makes him an expert at making money, that's for sure!

I mostly think it was just in the right place at the right time. It was the first iPhone game that didn't totally suck, and considering it was only a dollar, everyone jumped in on it. It's nothing to hate, it's a good enough game, and got more success than most people would have expected out of a flash game.
It was the first thing I downloaded when I got my smartphone a couple months ago. I played it for a couple minutes and I couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about. Does it just continue to be a slingshot game where the levels get more complicated? Or does it end up changing a ton throughout the different levels. I only played until level 3 and then got bored, but I will admit that it looks like there is a TON of content for people who enjoy it.
Although I should add that I only got the games because they're free on Androids. I'd consider it a waste of $1 or however much it actually costs to buy.
The levels do get harder to 3 star as you go. The pig's structures get more complex and some of them are tougher to kill. You get birds with different abilities but it's basically just let em fly and destroy as much as you can.
