This has been my most anticipated game for a while, so I was really excited to start it.

I've played up to the questioning the wife in the first real mission, where the abandoned car is filled with blood at the rail yard. I plan on playing without restarting if I **** stuff up, but I restarted this scene a couple times because I'm still getting the hang of the game.

First impression: Why am I such an obnoxious jerk? I went up to the crime scene photographer to maybe get a helpful hint and instead I insulted the guy. I was also a total ******* to my partner of the drive over. Who insults their partner and TO on the first day?

That carries over into the questioning thing. I'm talking to the wife and I ask her husband's whereabouts the previous night. She's not very specific, so I figure she's hiding something and select Doubt. This causes Cole to outright accuse her of murder. Same thing happens with the alibi question: I figure I'm gonna ask her to establish an alibi for the record, instead Cole is like "I KNOW YOU ****ING KILLED HIM SO I DON'T CARE WHAT **** YOU MAKE UP!" Why didn't my partner slap me? Is the whole game like this? It will be high on the unintentional comedy scale if so but also one of the most disappointing games ever.

I guess I'll make this a playthrough topic.

EDIT: I forgot, I'm also a total douchenozzle in the Marines flashbacks.

Yes, Phelps remains like that all throughout the game. He even calls a nice old lady a "nosy old hag" for Doubt.

Are you actually making the right choices.

But yeah Cole is kind of a dick like that. He's a guy who gets the job done and he cuts straight to the chase, and if he doubts them, he's gonna be up-front and possibly just outright accuse them to get them to say the truth about the matter

I don't think I was. I haven't actually finished the scene and saved yet, I think the right answer for everything might be Truth in that interrogation. But still, I seriously underestimated the meaning of the word Doubt.

Well there's two different sounds. If you're wrong it'll just be the same eerie tone, whereas if you're right it fluctuates. Also when you look at which question to choose, the past questions you asked are crossed out with a check or an x next to it.

Yeah I was playing with the sound down because my girlfriend was sleeping and that made the game really hard.

Alright I'm starting to get the hang of it. Got a perfect score (all questions answered correctly) for the hit and run outside the bar and the achievement for finding the knife on my first sweep of the bar.

There was a bit of confusion because I went to see the coroner before going to see the driver of the car. The coroner's report obviously pointed to the wife and bar owner (even though that was obvious as soon as I found the insurance policy), but I figured there was still the matter of arresting the guy for leaving the scene of an accident. Instead I brought him in for vehicular manslaughter even though I knew he didn't kill the guy. After that I just went to the wife's house and popped the dude in the face before he could kill his hostage. I'm the man.

God this game is so frustrating.

Like, what's the difference between Doubt and Lie? Both cause me to make wild accusations. I guess I choose lie specifically when I want to present evidence?

Ugh.

Doubt is when they're lying, but you can't actually prove it with something.

lie is for evidence

Protip: If you're unsure about something, try the lie option. If Cole sounds like a crazy person, then that's probably wrong and you can back out and try something else.

Wait you can back out of a lie accusation? I didn't even realize that.

don't think of it as truth, doubt and lie

think of it as
nice cop
bad cop
relevant evidence

Also Doubt makes me sound like a crazy person too.

I just asked this woman what the $20,000 check was about and she said she had no idea. She was doing shifty eyes so I doubted and I was like "YOUR HUSBAND IS OBVIOUSLY BEING BLACKMAILED AND YOU KNOW WHY!"

I also made the little girl who had been drugged, raped, and then almost killed cry.

Cole needs to calm the **** down.

Doubt is for when it sounds like they are withholding information. Like if you ask a guy, "Do you know where Jim went after work?" and he replies "Err...no. I saw him leave, but he didn't say where he was going" and looks nervous while saying it, then use doubt. Lie is when you straight up know they are lying about something AND have the evidence to prove it. It's a good idea to glance at your evidence (you can even do this when the Truth/Doubt/Lie prompt comes up).

And yeah, like other people said Cole never calms down. It's just his character.

Why the hell do I investigate a crime scene by touching everything without gloves and moving bodies?

I'm currently straddling a naked dead chick.

Also just trying lie sometimes helps, because they'll make it REALLY obvious what evidence to use when you try it.
