There's no Streaming + Disk plan anymore, now it's a $8 streaming plan, and an additional $10 single DVD/BR plan.

Bull****.

It's a bit ridiculous.

Hopefully they lose a bunch of customers for this crap, especially since they just raised the price last November.

Daw, really? I guess I can't keep sapping my mom's instant watch since she'll almost certainly get rid of it. $8 a month isn't bad though. It's cheaper than seeing a single movie in theaters.

I mean, considering it used to be about $5+ EVERY ****ING TIME you rented a movie from Blockbuster or whatever other store was out there, it's still a good deal. It just went from "OMG BEST DEAL EVER!" to "I wish I could pay less for this, but it's still good"

They haven't changed the streaming price, that's the same as before. I think that's a great deal on its own, though, even if a good chunk of Netflix is only available through DVD.

Streaming is the same, it's that there's no streaming + DVD for an extra $2 now. You have to buy the streaming plan, then by an entirely separate DVD plan.

For current customers, the price change occurs in September. I'll stay a member until then, but I will have to reconsider how often I use the DVDs then. It happens in spurts, but I haven't really cared during those lull periods that much because the price was good. An extra $5 reaches that point to where I consider it a waste.

Unfortunately it looks like the streaming price will increase a lot next year though. Their contracts expire then and with Amazon, Google and Hulu all in the game now it's going to be a lot to secure leasing rights.

It sucks because I feel like eventually, nobody's going to be able to offer a good deal on streaming because there will be too many big players trying to cash in on it. Once there's 8-10 companies offering streaming services and most of the content is exclusive to them, it's going to drive people away and back into just pirating again.

Why do you think they are advertising everywhere and going all out? Because they are (were) only 8 bucks and that would be the best time to try and get people on board before they crashed.

Lmao are you guys serious?

I buy like 20+ movies a year probably, even when they're steals for 5 bucks that's still over 100 dollars if not closer to 150 or 200. You're whining about UNLIMITED movies on disc for like 150 a year (or just drop the disc and stream for 96 a year, big deal)?

In something like this where they're actually having to raise prices because of competition, yeah monopolies are ok. TBQH the only problem with monopolies is when they act unethically, which Netflix never really has. Well, I'm sure somebody can think of something they've done, but it's nothing major that keeps them from having good prices.

Three businessmen are sitting in jail. A guard walks by and asks them, "So what are you guys in here for?"

The first one says, "My prices were too high, I'm in for price gouging."

The second one says, "My prices were too low, I'm in for predatory pricing."

The third one says, "My prices were the same as everyone else, I'm in for collusion."

You guys haven't heard? Netflix's contracts with companies aint looking so hot right now

http://money.cnn.com/2011/07/08/technology/netflix_starz_contract/index.htm?hpt=te_t1

Companies like Sony, Starz, etc see the money being made in streaming vs DVDs, and now they want it. Prices are gonna be going up, this is just the beginning, and I hate to be the doomsday sayer, but there it is.

Fun while it lasted.

I got a GameFly account I'm bout to cancel since aint nothing I really want for the next month or so at retail 'cept El Shaddai, but that's $14.98 a month for one-game at a time. Netflix has a similar price for Streaming + one DVD at a time. Doesn't seem too unreasonable for online rental services.

What I am most anoyed about is Netflix's instance on calling my DVD plan "Unlimited". I get one DVD at a time. Combine that with the time it takes to mail it in and get the next one and it is not physically possible for me to receive more than 10 DVDs a month, even if I immediately hand them back to the postman after he puts it in my box. How is that "Unlimited". But you just know that when they are calculating their expenses for the price increase on this plan that they are using a completely unrealistic number for how many discs I am receiving a month.

I currently pay $21.39 a month for Unlimited Streaming + Unlimited DVD's (3 out at a time). After the Price Increase I will be paying $23.89 a month. This is an increase of $2.50 a month. Considering the wife and I easily go through 20 DVDs and at least 40 hours of streaming a month (man we watch too much crap), I don't find this increase to be that horrible.
