I just searched OXM for the review, I did find this.

personally I feel like it gets better and better, especially as you do wave survival/proving grounds, and learn all the different weapons, which all play quite differently.

I just checked out the SALES NUMBERS for some of the more recent/noteworthy games that have come out

Trenched: 85,000 (still not even released in Europe either, so thats pretty darn good, especially considering it's a Double Fine game too!)
Half Minute Hero: 18,000 (it's kind of a niche game, but I assume this is still a bit of a disappointment)
Ms Splosion Man: 30,000 (not bad, though considering Splosion Man sold like 500K, I imagine they were hoping for a stronger week 1)
Bastion: 20,000 (in less than 24 hours omggg)

Also, Splosion Man was in that triple pack of XBLA titles that went retail, so that might be part of how it got to 500K, but still, it is a bit disappointing I think, but I'm sure it will continue to do well over time.

you get the Maw for free, it's supposed to be a solid game, so it's probably worth the minimal effort! It also says with "any" summer of arcade game, so I might have to check that site for From Dust or ITSP,.

The Maw is a solid title though. I mean, I didn't spend any money on it because I won it from 1v100 so my viewpoint is skewed. It is very short but a lot of fun and you know it's good because its Twisted Pixel!

Also, remind me of this to see what, if anything, they have to offer for From Dust.

man I really enjoy the wave survival challenges (Who Knows Where). it's fun on its own, but getting the backstory of a character after every wave is a great touch.

Bastion, Ms Splosion Man and Trenched all have leaderboards for the story mode, so you can see everyone who buys it. I got HMH's number by seeing the completions of the first level.

Gamasutra does an analysis every month as well, though usually it's well into the next month, so it is generally kind of outdated.

i'm already excited for new game+ to have more of a chance to toy around with these weapons. I never really got to give the army carbine or scrap musket a chance.

I tried out grenades and mines, they're OK but that squirt seems to do a ton of damage plus distracts enemies.

Finished last night.

I think it's a great game, and I have it firmly as my #2 downloadable title of the year. It has really fun and fast paced combat, all the different weapons are great. Wave survival and proving grounds are fun distractions. The narration, art, and music are all superb. I think they did a really good job with level variety as well. A lot of different environments, plus you usually come across a new weapon or enemy or 2 in each one, and they like to put in a gameplay twist or 2 somewhere in there for a lot of the levels, the game stays fresh throughout.

It is a bit short obviously, I would have liked maybe 2 more hours or so,. it's only 6-8, but it's a great experience throughout. The story has its moments, a few most notably near the end, but it hits a lot of lulls. Theres tons of backstory about the world itself that will be fed to you that is pretty cool, but the actual story is a bit lacking. I'd say the only thing that keeps me from putting it right at Outland level is the lack of any truly great moments from a gameplay perspective. This isn't necessarily a big flaw at all, since the game is fun all the way, but it doesn't have those few crazy awesome moments/fights (like Outland's boss fights) that are truly memorable.

Oh and another tiny flaw, leaderboards are awful! I have no idea how the single player story score is calculated! Kind of annoying. The survival modes have leaderboards too, but they are based solely on the amount of difficulty enhancers you put down. Time/etc isn't factored it seems. So basically, brad shoemaker will be #1 on all the leaderboards forever.

Still, great game, highly rec it, will be playing New Game+ today probably!

just did the ms splosion man challenge level, if we are really getting a new level every week, thats friggin awesome.

took me 14 minutes to beat it the first time, par time is 1:40 lol. I rarely get frustrated with that game, but that even had me pissed off for a few. 2nd time through though, I got it in one try, 1:24. 3 seconds off the top time, but still 800th some place, and I have no idea how to shave off those 3 seconds, oh well! pretty cool addition, these challenges.

were you stuck on the part where you are on the infinite sploding stuff and you have to backtrack to hit a switch? That part is really hard, you need a good run up to that point just to get a head start. From there, use as little splodes as possible to maximize speed so he doesnt catch up to you while you backtrack.

Its pretty fun, I like the little challenge games. I beat the Fang Repeater one, and a couple others I need first (Bow and Arrow and I forget the other one). Some I suck and can;t even get close to second (Machete any tips? It serousily takes m like 2-3 minutes lol). But I like them.
