I almost got 2 min once, it's really hard and sort of put me off doing any of the challenges until after I beat the game. I did do that first dream challenge though

most of the challenges aren't too bad. I think the only ones I didn't get first prize on after a few upgrades are the machete and the dual pistols

Got first on Army Carbine challenge

Got four seconds off of second on my first try

then got second

then the game trolls me with a score of :35 seconds (you need UNDER 35 for first) for like 5 rounds before finally I get a 33

side note, shield challenge was my favorite by far. mostly because after doing it like 15 times to get the 1st prize, I ended up being pretty damn good at countering. so if you are avoiding proving grounds, I do suggest you do that one.

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say MSM's low sales have to do with Ms. Splosion Man herself. I don't think many male gamers like playing as a female. A good indicator of that is 80% of Mass Effect 2 players use Dude Shep.

I don't think thats really related. I think when people have a choice they choose males more often, depending on the game anyway. If it's just playing as a female that turned people off, tomb raider never would've gotten big. The first Splosion Man was a Summer of Arcade title so thats probably part of it. It came out the same week as that Warhammer game, which ended up selling really well. MSM isn't really doing bad, 35,000 sold now which isn't bad for an arcade title, but yeah, I think over time it will be fine.

Alright I didn't buy Bastion like I said I was, but I did just try the demo. Gonna buy about 6000 points tomorrow and see what's worth getting. Haven't bought something since just before Stacked came out, which means I need that as well. What's essential, Icehawk?

Since I know you're going to say Outland, can you sell me on that? Because I played the demo and I usually love those types of games but the demo seemed really, really slow.

Yeah, being in Summer of Arcade def hurts it, but I feel like Ms Splosion Man does for Splosion Man the same stuff that Portal 2 did for Portal. Same unique concept, but it does a lot more with it. It is true though, while this formula works well in the retail world, people don't seem to get terribly excited for sequels in the XBLA space. Encourages new IPs at least

OUTLAND
+Very solid and fun platforming/exploration, but it's all taken to a completely different level thanks to the light and dark elements from ikaruga also being implemented.
+Amazing boss fights, best boss fights of 2011 so far for me, and probably top 3-5 this gen.
+Fantastic art style that pulls you into this world along with the music.
+Surprisingly fun combat with your limited arsenal of moves (sliding so fun).
+For all this content and for this well made game, just 10 bucks.
-Starts a little slow, maybe takes a bit too long to introduce the light/dark stuff.
-A story would have been nice.
-While exploring is fun, there could have been more rewards for it. Finding all the hidden items can get you 2x damage, but thats about it. You will also find a lot more coins than you actually need, as theres only a few upgrades to buy with them. More rewards for exploration would have been cool.


the main problem with it imo is definitely the slow start. Koolaid finally bought it, and he told me how he didn't like it tons to start, but it just gets better and better. Once they introduce more polarity elements, it's like a totally different game, and you haven't even experienced the epic boss fights yet, it's worth your money. especially for a mere 10 bucks.

Bastion and Ms Splosion Man are my other top DLable games of the year so far.

Other good ones, Trenched (Mech game + tower defense, comes together great, though maybe not enough content)

Hard Corps: Uprising (contra game with RPG elements, eliminates some of the frustration)

Dishwasher: Vampire Smile (super fast paced action game, can get a little repetitive, but it's really fun)

other than that I'd save some of the points for the rest of summer of arcade

I'm all about platforming, and I'm loving Shuggy. I haven't even played Splosion Man, so MSM didn't make any sense to buy right now.

I was actually laughing and talking to myself about what was happening when I was playing backbreaker. The full game that came out a couple years ago or last year, whenever it was, that wasn't worth sixty bucks. This though ... this is worth 15, easy. It's just damn fun. The tackles are the best.

finally got back to HMH -- about to try and power through the rest of the game. this game gets so good at the end.

whats good about the end? I've been flying a dragon around which has been pretty neat, but the game just stays "pretty good", never really getting that good for me. I wish there were more levels like the last one in the first continent. Quest 20 I think.

and yeah From Dust is one of those games reviewers will eat up for sure.

you never went down the other path. that one is pretty cool, and then hero 300 of course.

but overall, the end has a greater variety of options and the intensity gets cranked up a good bit. getting to level 60-70 with 8 allies is pretty fun. the one downside about the xbla version is that it gets super repetitive due to it lacking the other modes. oh well.

Yeah, when I was looking at reviews of the PSP version, all the diff modes was part of what I thought was really cool, those being cut is pretty confusing honestly.

apparently the controls are a little awkward, and guiding your tribe is annoying, those seem to be the main problems. so the PC version might end up a bit better. I guess I'll try the demo, but as of right now I feel kind of 50-50 on this one
