Mind you, I stopped reading/watching after book 5.

But I thought their names were James and Lily?

And James Potter was friends with other people and on the Quidditch team and went to Hogwarts in the past?


Do they mention this in a serious context or is it done comedically like "haha im ur dad and hes ur mom LOL."

Neville and Harry aren't his biological parents, obviously, but they're the wizards who raised him. That's the reason the reason Time-Turners were conspicuously absent from the series after the second book: Rowling planned for them to make a shocking return during the final fight in Book 7.
