I had a few technical issues with it like the diamond thing, and I don't think the Mystique actress did a great job, and after reading a metric ****-ton of X-Men following the movie there are some character choices and representations that annoy me (Darwin got nerfed to ****, why have Angel if you're not gonna have Beak, etc).

But I think it's a sign of a real fun movie that I can love it regardless.

I chuckled when Shaw mentioned the enslavement of mutants and the camera switched to a close-up of Darwin. I do wish he had more screentime, though.

I wasn't a fan of Mystique, either, but I really liked what they did with Beast and Magneto.

Is all of this canon, more or less?

Darwin's powers go beyond just defense. He adapts to survive much more than that. If Shaws attack would have truly been enough to kill him, then his powers would have teleported the energy out of him (or vice versa), like they teleported him away when he was fighting The Hulk.

I liked it a lot, but I'll grant that it had its problems. I honestly couldn't get past Kevin Bacon in the role that he was in, I think he was totally miscast.

On the other hand, I thought Michael Fassbender was really good as Magneto. He's a really good actor.

I liked Kevin Bacon in the movie when I saw it, but when I actually started reading stuff with Sebastian Shaw in it I was like "WTF is going on"
