ALL of them had a cool gimmick.
From the obligatory first boss with a phase when you don't attack, to a monster you chop up and actually see it happening, to a monster who makes you regret attacking it physically, etc.

Then the DS remake improved or even completely reversed things so going into battle knowing exactly what you used to need to do could very well make you your worst enemy.

Yeah, FFIV had one of the better boss lineups in the series. That's one thing it did well enough that it holds up, at least.

Agreed. Barbariccia is probably my favorite of the bunch.

l'll agree with this. Best final boss in the series was probably FFX's, though.

If you don't count Yu Yevon, that is.

I still have a soft spot for the several forms of FFVIII's finale. I also enjoy III's through V's a great deal for their increased level of difficulty compared to the others.

To be honest, though, Final Fantasy VI has the best boss fights in the series. Highlight of the game!

I loved the fact that you can make the Blue Mage boss in FFV use Self-Destruct.

I just wish they were harder. I know, I know, "Final Fantasy isn't hard anyway so get over it", but FFVI was really the start of a downward trend there that lasted a while.

True, but there *are* LL runs available to the dedicated player. Plus, any shortcomings due to difficulty are probably made up for by this:

Wouldn't V be the start of the so called downward trend? It has so many broken abilities you can pretty much kill everything effortlessly.

Bosh, touche.

swordz, I suppose it's a dip. But it also has significantly harder bosses than VI for those who don't know quite what they're doing the first time through and the final boss, while breakable as hell with the right setup, is still not nearly as breakable as the final in VI.

Plus it has Shinryu and Omega (and the Advance version has upgraded forms on them) and all of these things are harder than anything optional any version of VI ever cranked out.

Quite frankly, Mime, Gil Toss and the like still don't manage to be quite as OP as Genji Glove+Offering, which is... quite a feat.

Vaan can kill two Demon Walls, in fact.

Actually, no, he can't.

Because Vaan is never in my active party.

He's in mine often enough because I keep a balanced party level-wise in every game possible!

I always found V to be easier than VI, but maybe that's because VI actually forced me to use everybody so I had some characters who had good equipment and stuff, but I was just awful at using them.

First time I played FFXII, I tried to balance out my party, but then I ended up so underleveled at bosses that I struggled with a lot of them. Around Mt. Bur-Omisace, I decided I would just stick with a Balthier/Ashe/Basch team exclusively, and it worked out pretty well. Didn't really have any problems from that point forward.
