EVO moment #37

Not sure about first, but my MGS3 playthrough. Finished my last final and got home, popped on MGS3 (it was sometime in the afternoon, don't remember exactly when) and before I knew it, it was 10AM and I beat the game (I was right before The Fear when I started). It was like a beautiful dream.

Beating Contra bosses on the NES, I think. Also, It blew my little kid mind when I discovered the hidden world in SMW, and when Exor just dropped out of the sky in SMRPG.

getting past the speed bike level in battletoads

Beating Brock in Pokemon Yellow. It was my first pokémon game so I was a little stupid and didn't knew type matchups that well (except for those told in the show) so I had no idea Mankey would rape Brock so I beat him using only Pikachu and Pidgey, Pikachu was level 20 and Pidgey 17. Pidgey ended up the fight by killing Onix, gained a level and evolved after the match.

Felt awesome.

Within These Castle Walls at the end of Simon's Quest.

I was young and the game was brutal and if you didn't know where to go, you couldn't just click around on the internet to find what you need within 10 seconds. The game was a long process for me, mapping out every little thing on my own, overcoming some of the difficult areas, falling through countless false floors before learning the game inside and out on my own, and finally hitting the castle. The music hit (and I love the music) and the place is abandoned... just an awesome, eerie descent. Get to the bottom, and the final battle, and of course I had the sad ending because I took so long. I was so impressed with that final part, and the ending.

The bad ending for Star Strike might be there as well, probably the first time a game made me say WHOA but it didn't feel epic and it happened a lot >_>

The Bowser fight in Super Mario World, definitely. I was really young, so figuering out that you had to stomp the robot things and them flick 'em at him made me feel like a genius. And then he started dropping giant iron balls on my ass and I kept dying over and over.

But man, when I finally beat him and those fireworks started, I felt like I was on top of the world.

I'd had a Genesis before and beaten some of the super classic games with it, but this is the point where I can say gaming blew my mind. I must have been, like, 8, and went "O_O" when I saw I had to beat that huge monster!

Beating Blind the Thief in Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past. I was like six at the time and I REALLY sucked at the game (this was like three months after I first started playing video games), my parents were the ones getting through the game but Blind kept killing them so they let me try and I kicked his ass! My mom even made me a cool plaque commemorating the occasion.
