it's got a better sense of powerup-based exploration than pretty much anything that's come out recently. moreso than Shadow Complex, more than Metroid Other M, more than Aquaria, more than Arkham Asylum, more than Outland, more than any of those games. I think it's the best at doing that formula since Metroid Prime.
that doesn't mean it's better than all of those games -- though I'm sure it will be better than some of them -- but people need to keep their eyes on it when it launches next week.
it's not just powerups. it's the way that you explore the environment and have an incentive to find every little corner. Other M was pretty terrible in that aspect. (and I liked Other M)
I think downloadable prices are usually pretty fair, but $15 is well past my limit for this one. $5 would probably be the point where I'd be willing to jump in. Maybe it'll be on sale on Steam (is it coming to PC?) at some point.
Oh, yeah I guess Other M wasn't as good with exploration. I was thinking of the way that you get so much more powerful as you go along, so that enemies that gave you trouble early on can be killed with a simple screw attack.
You're a lot more interested in it than I am! I don't think it looks all that engaging, it's not something I'd want to spend too much on because I doubt it'd hook me. It's not so much that it's low budget, just that's the price I'd pay for my interest level. Kinda like waiting for $60 game to drop to $20-30.
I like its aesthetic but it does look low budget to me from that vid, very simple style and there's no music? I'd pay $15 for it anyway if I had a 360 though, but I don't :/
Yeah, I don't consider Outland to be a Metroid game! To me, it's an action-based platformer - linear, levels, no reason to backtrack. I'm sure I'll check this out sometime, though, assuming it comes out on the PC.
I can't even tell. like, I fought the boss in the above trailer without that saw thing. that's the best, when you don't even know what the right path is and you can just explore on your own.
