Not yet. It depends on how well it does this holiday season, after the price drop and the new Mario games. Software will be its biggest issue going forward, so it'll need to sell well to convince third-parties to continue devoting resources to the platform. Also depends on how people respond to Vita.

I think it's already confirmed for Japan, just without a solid date. Sony said they plan to release it in at least two territories this year, so it depends on if they go for Europe or U.S. -- it sounds more and more like Europe will get it first, since that's a better market for them.

As far as the 3DS goes, Nintendo always has that Pokemon ace up their sleeve. If the console still won't sell when they release the next generation of that series, then they're boned.

I think they have to release Vita this year. Nintendo's handheld dominance has never looked so vulnerable, and with the price cut and Mario Land 3D/Mario Kart, they're planning on building themselves up. If you're gonna strike and not be Nintendo's b*** forever, now would be the time, Sony!

But yet almost everyone does it!

This way they get an initial wave of early adopters who will buy any new tech, and then when the good games come they get another wave of gamers waiting for a reason to own the system.

The only real downside is if you actually think that the system will sell tons with no games (as Nintendo apparently did). That's just not gonna happen.

They should nave named it something else, and marketed it. I saw no marketing for the thing, and the parents buying one for their kids will just assume it's the same as a DS and no want to waste money on it.
