Now 37-31 for anyone who cares (just me probably). it's required me playing constant Night Elf but I'm climbing out of .500 land. aww yeah.
I'm going to try to keep this bumped. if anyone is ever up for a game we could schedule one here. I'm usually up for games any time after 3PM Alaska time, which I suppose is late afternoon/evening in most time zones.
oh the worst thing is when you start a game and the other guy quits five seconds in. I'm guessing that's not a real person. some sort of bot, maybe? anyway I picked up two wins because of that, undeserved. so it's probably still close-ish to .500 on legitimate games I've played.
I was primarily human, but I can really play anything but NE quite well. Or at least I could. I'm sure I'm super rusty now, but mayhaps we can play at some point.
guy builds an ancient of war in my base, applies constant pressure and never built units except three heroes all game, except hippogryphs way later as a counter to Chims. taunted the entire time, started the match with "f*** you" and threw around a couple racial slurs. cool I guess.
actually he always seemed to know what I was doing and kept killing off all my units with just his three heroes.
either he was cheating or was ridiculously better than me. I'm not discounting the latter, but I'd think you'd have better things to do with your time if you're that good. like play for fun! also probably wouldn't have a username shaped like male genitals.
it's just a different form of cheese really. Spending all your gold on heroes and trying to get the jump on your opponent.
Excellent scouting will stop it cold in its tracks as well as defensive building placement to build an army up and prevent the heroes from jumping all over your army.
hm yeah. he sent one of his first five wisps to build the ancient of war in my base (right next to my first moon well, actually) so I usually wouldn't scout that early. my usual order goes
Alter > Moon Well > Fill Up Gold Mine > Scouting Wisp > Lumber/Ancient of War
I would've had to scout with one of my first five wisps to catch that I think. not sure what I should've done differently. the opening game was basically his rooted ancient of war and a DH vs my DH, an Archer, and my AoW I uprooted, with a wisp repairing my moon well whenever he smacked it.
the game lasted a while longer though, and yeah I think a long term solution would've been to sit in my base behind some Ancient Protectors building up my army. at the time though I didn't know what he was cheesing the whole way through, figured he was building an army or expanding. basically thought I was playing a real game after a cheese opening. so I'd go out with my units, he'd find me immediately, kill them, and TP or Staff out. Moon Wells, then kill more of my guys. altogether kind of frustrating!
You should still be scouting his main with a wisp or two even after the cheese unless he somehow managed to chase down any "normal" timing scouts you decided to send. And then you would notice a lack of production buildings/moonwells/etc. Now that you've seen it though it will be much less effective in the future.
yeah I was thinking that. should've been scouting more! I consistently do it as part of my opening now but need to get into a habit of doing it regularly. had I scouted I would've definitely played it smarter.
but man what an unpleasant fellow
opening dialogue him: f*** you" me: "oh. I prefer gl hf but whatevs." him: "are you n*****" *plants AoW next to my moonwell* him: gg
I was actually feeling proud of myself on the cheese front too, because I beat a human tower rush yesterday. I was like "oh yeah first tower rush ever beated how awesome am I."
its called a troll
they do that because they fail at life
yeah. with his constant taunts he was obviously just there to irritate people. I was hoping I could pull the game out and give a ";)" as I barreled into his base but no such luck! I'll do better next time.
well I loved the good old blood mage + footies rushdown your main building strat back in the day.
Or rushing over some militia to tower rush a NE on 2 player maps. But those can legitimately transition into real builds even if they don't GG someone right away.
I played like 10 games vs Orc with double AoW Huntress pushes and stayed at tier one forever. at least one person was irritated! I'm pleasant to talk to though at least.
Hunts are legitimately strong against Orc though. There is something to be said for sitting at tier 1 when it allows you to control the game and force them to continually play a reactive game.
yeah that was my thinking. playing against a good BM with constant harass is unpleasant, so I figured make him play on the defensive and I'll have to worry about that less. seemed like something I had to win early though. if they made it to tier two and still had their burrows intact I usually lost.

i remember back in the earliest days hunts were real strong against EVERYTHING. Probably the most hated unit in war 3 history

this sounds like my kind of time, sign me up
grubby was talking about how stuff was all messed up in the early days on one of his commentaries. orc mirrors were mass kodos apparently, sounds rad. sad to have missed out on all of that!
ya the meta game for RTSs when they first come out are insane. When SC1 first came out terran was just "rush to cloaked wraiths" because so many people neglected detection.
In war 3, NE players would mass hunts. Orc v Orc was mass kodos like you said, mass casters were used tons of times too (especially human casters with poly + inner fire). Mass necromancers used to own because only humans had dispel for a while.

From his looks Magus is Macho Man Randy Savage as an anime zombie. The black wind howls, and one of you will snap into a Slim Jim ooh yeeeah! -sonicblastpunch
humans get the towers up so fast though because you can combine workers on both the lumber mill and the towers themselves. The war mill and orc watchtowers can't be sped up at all and so it's something you can only do on certain maps when the fog of their base exit will benefit you.
Undeads are my worst matchup. I do pretty well against Orc and Night Elf, and sort of okay against Human, but man Undead. I'm always scouting for expansions because I'm afraid to go into their main until I know I've got the game won. I'm tried early hero harass against their Acolytes but half the time it doesn't accomplish much and ends in me burning a TP. So still working that out!
I'm on west. I actually haven't tried any others, and just recently found out that you can change it. I'm guessing lag gets worse the further away you choose?
if youre up im actually willing to play a few ladder matches right now
sure sounds good! you'll have to explain how to make us meet up though, so far I've just clicked "quick play match" or whatever, I have no idea how to seek out specific people.
Aboms are awesome dude, don't hate. I beat Mountain Giants with those f***ers.
