Is it sad that all four of the Metroid games I played last year (Fusion, Prime, Super Metroid, Other M) gave me light scares?

Funnily enough, Resident Evil 4 wasn't actually that much more scary!.

That isn't that surprising, Resident Evil isn't a horror series anymore, RE4 is an action game with elements of horror thrown in- just like Metroid.

Speaking of Shadow of the Colossus, do you guys think there should be a Metroid game in the future devoid of all enemy encounters aside from boss battles?

This idea may actually work better with Metroid than it did for Shadow of the Colossus. Games like Super Metroid and Metroid Prime had really beautiful atmospheres that were more varied in their design than either of the games team Ico has made.

To my understanding, Ico takes place in only a single castle, while Shadow of the Colossus creates those vast open expanses of land in order to make the colossi stand out better.

Resident Evil 4 felt like equal parts horror and action, or at least not TOO much in favor of the latter. Then again, it's the only third-person shooter I've beaten so maybe I shouldn't be talking.

To my understanding, the Resident Evil series thrives on B-movie shock horror driven by minimal plot and heavy backstory. By comparison, the Silent Hill series is more about trying to create a genuinely disturbing atmosphere for the player, and this is supplemented by a powerful plot. At the very least, it seems nowadays that Resident Evil is trying to fit into the crowd with every other cover-based shooter while Silent Hill is trying more to embrace its roots.

I know!

I remember the internet a decade ago when the original Metroid was considered the best of the series by a decent percentage of Metroid fans, and Metriod 2 was the black sheep of the series.
