I'd say 14-year-olds are all dumb, regardless of gender. It's not like they don't know what sex is or anything, but they don't know enough to make a rational decision about consenting to sex.

Man, you guys overrate the kid way too much. Even on a 14 year old scale of cool, the "had sex with a 20 year old" doesn't mean the "still has a babysitter" part doesn't count.

Emotionally you can really mess up a 14 year old girl by banging her early, while a 14 male wouldn't put as much stock in the relationship aspect.
Even were this true "most of the time," there are still plenty of emotionally-driven boys who'd be impacted badly by the experience, and plenty of less-sensitive girls who'd get through the experience just fine. You can't deal in absolutes in a case like this. Either way, Santa's on the right track. The reason the law says what is does is because children simply aren't emotionally developed enough to be able to handle the gravity of a first sexual experience. We immaturely talk about "hi-fiving" the kid and giving him "props" and whatever, but the fact of the matter is that it'd **** many of us up in the head whether we'd like to admit it or not. Plus, there are issues of STDs and pregnancy to consider, which are obviously outside of the kid's control.
