Even his "classic" 2D Genesis games are basically Genesis tech demos. Oh wow I can move really fast. Amazing. The actual good platformers from the period like Mario and DKC2 absolutely obliterate Sonic.

The only good Genesis Sonic game imo is Sonic 3. I'd go so far as to call the first two downright bad.

Sonic's been picking up again with Colors, which was pretty great. I'd probably put it on par with the Adventure games.

This is encouraging, I only have the first two and I think they're good but not great. Maybe I'll go ahead and get the third one.

Sonic was always much more enjoyable to me than Mario... The "graphic style" was cooler, better characters, a lot faster, better music, those cool mini stages... Only thing the 2d marios had over it for me is more replay/longer games and more difficult

Reading "Hur dur I can go really fast just hold right" usually tells me someone hasn't played Sonic for more than 5 minutes.

Yeah, there's a lot of stopping and jumping past Green Hill Zone. I actually enjoy it more when you're able to have stretches where you can run and jump, but there's less of that as you go. Mario you can just cruise through levels no problem.

Yeah, if you actually looked at that video, he exploits a glitch that basically makes Sonic disappear while the game autoscrolls through the entire level. It's not indicative of anything to do with the game's actual gameplay.
