Why does this game have the overly simplified Paragon/Renagade system? It just doesn't work in a game where a lot of the choices make you think and can be complex.

Do I get screwed if I answer honestly and end up with a karma meter still hovering in the middle?

From what I've heard (admittedly from limited sources), if you're not way on one side or the other, you're gonna get a bad ending.
