10 years ago, Japan, but today, America. All I need is some SC2, TF2, DotA, Civ, etc.

America.

A lot of it was that despite the fact that Japan has a very rich history of games, I've played a very large chunk of those that I've wanted to play. I'd miss out on some things that I haven't gotten around to, sure, but the future of gaming has the potential to be so absurd and amazing that I wouldn't want to handicap myself by picking what (seems to be) the losing team going forward.

What does America have outside of FPS and RTS over Japan anyway? I can't think of much.. even the Bethesda RPGs are essentially FPS, Fallout especially.

capcom is japan's activision/EA, the more they take after capcom the worse off they will be.

Lol only Activision is bad. EA is pretty amazing these days. If Capcom can be like EA I'm all for it.

Capcom might not be making amazing games anymore, but their business model is amazing. They embraced multiplat and that's why they are the only 3rd party Japanese publisher not in deep ****.

Outside of WoW, I'd say Japan is pretty close to America in terms of MMOs. FF11 is still the 2nd most played MMO in the world IIRC. If you count Monster Hunter, that is one of the biggest selling franchises in Japan these days. But yeah, that is an edge to America but not a huge one

I'd give racing to Japan. Gran Turismo, Mario Kart and F-Zero beats what America puts out.

Sports games are kinda a wash. Japan does better Soccer and baseball games, but they don't even attempt others like basketball and American football.

Yeah, but FFXI is like the only relevant MMO they have, there's also FFXIV but this game is so bad it hurts.

America has WoW, LOTRO and Rift that are relevant today. USA is also behind Everquest 1 and 2 and Ultima Online which are EXTREMELY important mmos.

And then there's Guild Wars 2 which is the next big thing. If not the biggest thing.

Japan's got all my favourite franchises, and video games themselves, it's an easy choice for me.

f-zero hasn't had a release since 2004, it's irrelevant since nintendo has decided to focus on more gimmick/casual based experiences now

also saying that bethesda's games are FPS is the ultimate exemplification of the stupidity of weeaboos, this would be like saying that most japanese games are in third person SO OBVIOUSLY THEY'RE ALL THE SAME

Hey, I'm a huge Fallout fan. But to say a game that plays in first person where you use guns doesn't have major FPS elements is just being silly

Elder Scrolls has minor FPS elements. Its enough that it'll draw in the people who typically like to play games in first person, while also scaring off people who don't like first person games. Its not very significant I will admit though.

Also when i look to my left I see the Borderlands 2 Game Informer cover that still sends shivers down my spine.

Well, I never really enjoyed the majority of first person games due to it being a weird feeling. I don't like not being able to see my characters, not being able to see all around me, getting kinda dizzy at times, etc. Like I play the Bethesda games in 3rd person for the most part, just going to first person when I need to.

Third person in general is a lot easier for me to get into, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

japan. on the basis that really there have been PLENTY of top notch games of most of today's genres as well in addition to the past. going forward isn't really gonna be a decline in a lot of the high quality stuff. never made much sense to me when that's improved over the years.

don't wanna lose Atlus, don't wanna lose Platinum Games, don't wanna lose Nintendo, Enix, Sega, Konami, or Capcom. don't wanna lose all the VNs, shmups, or fighters - which are all Japan. US still has a LOT of catching up to do and have done well at cornering sandbox games and a certain style of gameplay, but Japan still takes a good portion of everything else.
