There's more to popular music than vocal talent and quality of lyrics.

In fact, I'm pretty sure being an average vocalist and crummy songwriter are requirements for becoming a pop star!

But yeah, her songs are quite catchy and her style of music (euro/dance influenced pop?) is what teens listen to these days. Plus, she's anything but boring.

Most of the people who say otherwise think "vibrato" is a made-up word.

I can't remember what word I was trying to type on my phone, but "vibrato" was suggested like three times before I got it right. I honestly thought to myself "There is no way vibrato is a real word, it has to be some brand of vibrator..."

And I gotta say that I find it hilarious that you guys are actually trying to pinpoint some aspect of her that is responsible for making her a susperstar as if there is one or two things that separate her from her peers rather than, you know.. everything about her persona and musical style that comes together to form a unique package that people just seem to love.

You make a good point about her persona, but her musical style wasn't all that special and unique in the The Fame Monster era. I'll grant you it became more distinguished with Born This Way.

She's an acquired taste. Personally I like her anti-bullying message more than her music. I still can't deny her newest album is pretty good. And wow, she can put on a performance.

Plenty of good songwriters out there though. It is rare to find an exceptional vocalist who is a great songwriter, but they do exist. I wouldnt be so perplexed if she was just another singer, but she seems to be the most popular 'artist' in the world now.
