And especially irked at how Stargate Universe ended, and the cancellation of the movie event.

Who do I send my hatemail to?

Just pretend the alternate timeline from a few episodes before the Universe finale was the real timeline.

Rupert Murdoch.

Not that it's remotely anything to do with him, but there's never a good reason not to send Darth Murdoch hate mail, so you might as well.

It won't accomplish anything but direct it toward both SyFy and MGM. The restructuring of both companies played a large part in the temporary destruction of the franchise.

Hand-written is infinitely preferable.

How did Universe end?

I think forgot S2 was starting and missed the first few episodes and just said "screw it."

Stargate Universe's ratings do speak for themselves though to be frank. Huge fan of the franchise I am there's still no ignoring it. There is a complex combination of reasons the second spinoff did not pull in the numbers desired but one of them is quality. The series took the familiar dynamic that the Stargate franchise founded itself upon and spun it -- a statement that sounds like it might be a good thing but it proved otherwise.

On a cliffhanger, basically. The cast and crew had hoped for a 'telefilm' to wrap things up in the style that SG-1 received and Atlantis was supposed to receive but never will. It fell through.

They found stasis pods in Destiny (with a few broken ones) and were able to freeze the entire crew except one member.

Eli decided to be the one member to sit out, but he only had a couple weeks to fix a broken pod before he would use up all the power on the ship that was sustaining his life and the rest of the crew. So he would have to fix his pod or commit suicide before that happened. The show ended with all the members getting in their pods and Eli looking out the observation deck while the ship was in FTL.

Stargate Atlantis was at least given the decency of a finale that didn't feel so blatantly like a cliffhanger but it was very blatantly penned as the lead-in for a continuation. Joe Mallozzi awaited the eventual disappointing news for many months while the fans on the other hand mostly accepted the facts.

SGU is hardly the only series to be sliced by the hammer of SyFy. Farscape raised a big enough ruckus back in 2003 to earn itself a proper finale. SG-1 was abruptly ended as well but got the two telefilms -- supposed to be more for a long time but it's officially dead in the water now. SGA was abruptly ended... just went over that. Caprica as well but like SGU its numbers were pretty terrible.

Eureka is the latest. Once the network's foundation it has now been unceremoniously axed; the writers are struggling to deliver a satisfying finale with the one extra hour for the upcoming season they've been given to tidy things up. That show isn't as serialized though so it doesn't have as much of an issue.

As I've told you before the show (SG-1 mainly) is quite superior!

Oh right! Yeah I think it was the night after we talked about it that I saw the movie. It was a decent movie, but the lack of much real dialogue did get on my nerves. I don't want to pirate the stuff, I just want to stream it. But no luck so far.

There's a very alluring concept behind the film but it's plagued by Roland Emmerich's typical... lack of polish in regard to its characters. The atmosphere is stunning, truly engaging. The dialogue... not so much.

It doesn't help that Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks are such better versions of Kurt Russell's and James Spader's characters that it's almost painful for me to go back. Well... I take that back. Spader is decent. Russell... it's nothing against the guy but in retrospective rationale (something that typically shouldn't be allowed but SG-1 was just so good and so long) he doesn't hold a candle to his successor.

Of course SG-1 takes some time to get off the ground anyway.

And yes, I can talk about this until the topic is 500'd with remarkable ease. I'm a member of GateWorld nine years and running. The s*** I know about this franchise, lemme tell ya.

speaking of Spader, I'm a huge fan of his stuff with Boston Legal (probably the only TV show that I've seen every episode of), and I didn't know he was in Stargate til I watched it. He was ok, but really nothing special.

I knew exactly what this link would be. And it is still awesome.

The series took the familiar dynamic that the Stargate franchise founded itself upon and spun it -- a statement that sounds like it might be a good thing but it proved otherwise.

Also, the early episodes were really boring.
