That it has a lot of roller coasters? Who cares? What makes it better than Great America, which has all the same ones and is currently building the first ever wing coaster? Is it just a matter of following the trend?

If that's true, it still doesn't explain what the point of traveling there is. For what reason do my friends who all have season passes to Great America feel the need to make an expensive ass trip to a place a few states away and which offers essentially the same experience?

Maybe the Cedar Point iterations of the coasters are better?

Millennium Force and Maverick are the two greatest rides I have ever been on period. Granted I have never been to Great America.

Just looked up the 2010 Golden Ticket Awards, voted on by theme park enthusiasts from across the country.

Cedar Point has 5 of the top 25 steel coasters in the world, including 3 in the top 10, and the #1 overall with Millennium Force (which is especially amazing considering that it's 11 years old now!). Only 1 wooden coaster in that Top 50--Blue Streak (built in 1964!) at #47.

Six Flags Great America only placed 1 coaster in the top 50 steel coasters; Raging Bull at #16. It also had one wooden coaster in the top 50 (Viper at 34).

Millennium Force is commonly regarded as the greatest roller coaster of all time, and Top Thrill Dragster and Maverick aren't far behind (even the 20 year-old Magnum, my personal favorite, makes top ten lists still) . Plus there's the sheer number of coasters and other rides, beaten only by Magic Mountain in terms of number of coasters.

Cedar Point's atmosphere is just great. I went there for my first time this summer, and ever since I am more jealous of Ohioans because they are much closer than I am. Every coaster is at least enjoyable, and some are downright amazing. The Raptor is like a dream come true for me, and the Millennium Force is incredibly sexy. Sure the lines are sometimes bad, but they make them accommodating and if you're with friends just chilling the time flies.

Am I the only one that vastly prefers the maverick over the millenium force? It's just such a well rounded and thrilling experience, Millennium has the bigger drop, but Maverick has more variety, and more awesome moments (like the stop in the darkness then all of a sudden BAM)

Man, I really need to get to Cedar Point sometime. While I love my state I will admit that one of its weaknesses is very little proximity to theme parks. The closest good one is ValleyFair and it's almost 4 hours away.

You guys are making me feel like I haven't even lived. I mean I've been on a few coasters in my day, but they weren't really anything special. If you know people that are willing to travel to different states for these rides... they must be pretty amazing.

I could see the argument that Maverick is a superior first-time experience, but eventually you become accustomed to all of Maverick's gimmicks and it just becomes a really smooth, crazy coaster instead of something 100/100 great.

Millennium Force has no gimmicks, it's just amazing start-to-finish, and it has little to do with the opening drop. Best air-time in the world if you're riding it right, and that's the mark of a great coaster (like the Magnum as well).

Not Cedar Point-related, but still Ohio roller coaster-related: since when did they take the vertical loop out of Son of Beast? I just found out about this.

Wait, never mind, I was wrong.

They had to switch to lighter trains because the regular trains were causing too much stress on the track, so then they had to remove the loop because the lighter trains wouldn't be able to clear it without rollbacks.

Yeah they took out the loop and then they just shut it down. It's been closed for the past 3 or 4 seasons at least. King's Island has some nice rides if you live about 2 or 3 hours away. I live about an hour away and I went quite a bit this past summer.

Yeah, since I'm in Toledo it's a lot easier and better to just go to CP, so I only tend to go to King's Island if I am already in the area for another reason.

I've always taken Cedar Point for granting, living in Ohio. Never realized Millennium Force was considered to be the best.

Plus it made the lines for the Magnum really short.

I still have yet to get to Cedar Point, despite my relative proximity. Six Flags Darien Lake has the Superman, but that's a kiddy ride next to the Millenium Force and the Dragster.

Great Adventure has great stuff, like Kingda Ka and Nitro. It also has the best wooden coaster I've been on, El Toro.

However, I've been to Ceder Point, Great Adventure, Magic Mountain, Universal Flordia, King's Dominion, Six Flags New England, Dorney Park...and a few other random ones. And the best coaster I've been on has been Bizzaro (New England).
