Rules for the contest:
1. In this contest, you only vote for a game if you’ve played both games in its’ match. Both games. This is important.
2. You have to have played them yourself, physically. Reading a Let’s Play is not playing. Watching your
friend or youtube is not playing. Disliking a genre is not playing. Playing the prequel/sequel is not playing. You’re the judge of how long you need to play a game before it’s fair to vote, but you probably shouldn’t be voting for/against a 40-hour RPG if you’ve played the first 5 minutes.
3. All ports & remakes are grouped together. You can vote for RBY if you’ve only played FireRed.
4. Please vote honestly. There are plenty of contests where you can vote any way you want. The entire purpose of this contest is ruined if people don’t honor the honor system.
5. In the event of a tiebreaker, the game with less C/D votes moves on.
6. One vote per person. Rallying is allowed if the people rallied also vote fairly and by the rules. Whichever game has more votes from people who have played both games (i.e. Choice A vs. Choice B) moves on. Matches last 24 hours.
7. If a game has been played by less than 8 people, it is auto-eliminated.

Stars:
Visual Novels. All VNs (Umineko, Fate/Stay Night, Ever17, Sharin) and things that could be construed as a VN (Phoenix Wright, 999, Ghost Trick, Hotel Dusk) all won. B8 likes their words.

RPGs. In general, if your game had lots of numbers in it, it did well.

Less-played games. Just look at the statistic table and you’ll see how universal playrate=/=universal love.


Turds:
Final Fantasy. The only one left is FFX. Nothing more to be said!

Nintendo. Zelda and Mario Galaxy did fine for themselves, but Mario, Fire Emblem, Melee, DCK2…most Nintendo games didn’t survive the first round.

Universally played games. This overlaps with Nintendo. Apparently, everyone playing you means that everyone can vote against you.

Out of curiosity, since it seems the DQ rule has switched to %-based rather than a static number, does that apply retroactively? I think Ar tonelico II is the only one that would be affected. I admit I'm a bit biased here in that I really like it, but my understanding is that these changes are not applied retroactively and the previous results stand. Which I don't have a problem with, any other stance is arguably trouble, even if the cost is seeing a game I like get knocked out.

Changes aren't applied retroactively. Fairy Tale 2 wasn't eliminated when I added that rule, ect. The rules were there for a while, so it wouldn't be fair to change them to suit a game in the middle of a match.

Yeah, I figured. Just wanted to make sure. Didn't know if modification of an existing rule was considered any different than just adding a DQ rule in. Retroactively applying the latter would absolutely be unfair, I could have seen a case argued either way for the former, but yeah, safe route is to keep everything as it is.
