Not much shakeup in the top 10 other than Galaxy 2 rightfully leaping ahead of Galaxy 1. OoT and Paper Mario take tumbles from their losses but manage to stay in the Top 25. Okami finally makes its Top 25 debut, and Mario Kart 64 returns after its big win over Super Metroid. In true Phoenix Wright fashion, T&T hangs on by a thread, forcing a tie for 25th and thus remaining on the Top 25 with 26 teams.

Everyone in the Top 10 gets 300 points or more. Everyone in the Top 15 gets 200 points or more. Everyone in the Top 20 gets 100 points or more. Funny how that worked out.
Well FFVI struggled to break 40% on something that currently has 5 losses...and was made to look weaker than StarCraft there...
Nah, what am I kidding.
Speaking of StarCraft though, what the heck? How does something outperform FFVI against Super Metroid, yet struggle to prevent a loss to Gunstar Heroes?
Was just looking over the conference standings, and I have to say...holy crap Sonic Overload Conference. Mother 3 is 9-7 and is in ninth place. Not even just "there are 9 games with winning records"--there are eight games that are at least 10-6, and then there's a 9-7 game that is alone in ninth place. Meanwhile, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Super Smash Bros. are tied for second in Smash Trigger with 8-8 records.
And yet...Top 25 by conference (also receiving votes):
Nintendo Objections: 3 (1) Smackdown Hotel: 3 (1) Twilight Barrel Galaxy: 3 (1) Fanservice: 3 (0) Games of the Decades: 2 (1) Cult RPG Galaxy: 2 (1) Metroid Eater: 2 (1) Tanooki Blitzball: 2 (0) Zelda Overload: 2 (0) Patriot Time Portals: 2 (0) Thousand-Year World of Sunshine: 1 (0) Smash Trigger: 1 (0) Sonic Overload: 0 (2) Brawl for Broke: 0 (2)
Yeah. Not a single member of the Top 25 is from Sonic Overload, even though as a whole it has the second-best record of any conference. Should be fun to see what happens once conference play begins.

I was pointing this out to swirl on AIM earlier. Nobody really seems to trust any of the games from that conference despite the fact that most of them have winning records. You'd probably have to check the SoS on most of those. S3&K is probably the only one of those with a decent SoS.

"Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!"
Hmm. Slow start to the week. Today ended up with the "featured match" being two non-top 25 games (though rightly so, as it was the only one where both competitors were at least receiving votes for the Top 25), and tomorrow should bring more of the same as the highest-ranked game in action is #25 Mario Kart 64. And then Days 99-102 bring plenty of awesome matches.

swirIdude posted... People are stupid. Any time Metroid Prime loses is proof of that.
Replace "Metroid Prime" with "Super Metroid" and you get closer, although none of those losses (except maybe MK64, and even then it's easy for me to understand why a subtle work of art would lose to the life of the party) are stupid at all.
What's funny is that I voted against Prime in all three of its losses, while I voted for Super Metroid in all of its losing matches. Also, according to the RPI, MGS2 is still the weakest game to defeat Super Metroid (also I still believe that loss was a fluke, and even then is a loss to something that broke 40% on RE4 really that bad? [lol I was referring to Mario Kart here]).
I still hold that Super Metroid coming seven votes away from losing to StarCraft was worse for the former game than any of its own close losses. I want to say StarCraft is really strong as it rightfully deserves to be, but it just is not and that sucks.
Secret of Mana (Brawl for Broke Conference) (9-8) 9 (23.08%) #1 Chrono Trigger (Smash Trigger Conference) (17-0) 30 (76.92%) --CT decided it wanted to go ahead and get its win out of the way, so it took the first match of the week.
Nier (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (4-13) 3 (7.89%) #17 Final Fantasy IX (Smackdown Hotel Conference) (15-2) 35 (92.11%) --FFIX with the biggest blowout of the contest thus far. Gonna chalk this up to some RPG SFF here.
The Secret of Monkey Island (Smackdown Hotel Conference) (10-7) 19 (51.35%) (OT, 8-1) Gunstar Heroes (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (5-12) 18 (48.65%) --This match was close during regulation, but Monkey Island nearly pitched a shutout in overtime.
Demon's Souls (Zelda Overload Conference) (3-14) 13 (39.39%) Suikoden V (Patriot Time Portals Conference) (8-9) 20 (60.61%) --Suikoden V inches closer to a .500 record with a win over Demon's Souls.
Psychonauts (Fanservice Conference) (6-11) 14 (36.84%) Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (Smash Trigger Conference) (9-8) 24 (63.16%) --Hey, there's another team in Smash Trigger above .500 now!

Sonic CD (Sonic Overload Conference) (3-14) 16 (41.03%) Street Fighter II (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (9-8) 23 (58.97%) --SF2 also gets above .500 with an easy win over Sonic CD.
World of Goo (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (6-11) 24 (68.57%) Twisted Metal 2 (Smash Trigger Conference) (3-14) 11 (31.43%) --Don't look now, but World of Goo has now won four out of five!
#18 The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Games of the Decades Conference) (14-3) 28 (68.29%) Mortal Kombat II (Patriot Time Portals Conference) (3-14) 13 (31.71%) --Majora's 14th win also marks the 100th win for its conference. Most of the conferences have either reached that mark or will reach that mark very soon (Well, except for a few).
#15 Final Fantasy VI (Twilight Barrel Galaxy Conference) (13-4) 30 (76.92%) Killer7 (Metroid Eater Conference) (8-9) 9 (23.08%) --FFVI takes a bit of a breather from its usual tough schedule to put a beatdown on Killer7.
Metroid Prime (Metroid Eater Conference) (14-3) 23 (53.49%) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Brawl for Broke Conference) (13-4) 20 (46.51%) --Prime defeats Yoshi's Island in a battle of games trying to earn their way back into the Top 25.
Halo 2 (Metroid Eater Conference) (3-14) 9 (23.68%) Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (Twilight Barrel Galaxy Conference) (7-10) 29 (76.32%) --Whoo, four wins in a row for R&C!
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (10-7) 19 (44.19%) #3 Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow (Nintendo Objections Conference) (16-1) 24 (55.81%) --Persona 3 put up a good fight, but R/B/Y wasn't going to let itself get upset today.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Nintendo Objections Conference) (12-5) 27 (79.41%) Gears of War (Sonic Overload Conference) (1-16) 7 (20.59%) --Uncharted 2 has quietly accrued 12 wins.
Okay, fine. I'll put you at #50 among my nicest users. =P
Good win by Metroid Prime. It needed to beat something decent.
Funny, I was I just about to ask about the biggest blowout of the season. And here we have a new winner for that. It still doesn't quite match Solid Snake/Superman, if I remember correctly. Do you have the old records with you still, Leonhart, to find the biggest blowout of any NCAA character/game contest?

"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."
Unfortunately, records from the original Characters Contest do not exist because I kept those records on a Freewebs account, and that account has long since bitten the dust.
This top 50 discussion makes me think: after seeing how much hate LMS gets for expressing opinions on games he hasn't actually played, I may have to do a better job of hiding the fact that I don't actually play video games.
There's a difference between not playing video games and then flaunting the fact that you don't play video games and trying to express opinions about games based on things you've heard from other people/magazines/websites.

Persona is a cult game. It won't get blown out, but it also won't win big. And that's why P4 can't get any love in the ballots, where people are looking for those eye popping blowouts.

For me it would be difficult for anything to be better than the godly Super Metroid and top tier Metroid Prime (let alone by such a margin). I can see myself liking MK64 more than any of the N64 Zelda games, but I won't vote as such since I haven't played MK64 since 2003 or something.
vcharon posted... LeonhartFour posted... Mario Kart 64 is better than any of those games, and by a wide margin, to boot.
The correct opinion. Just restating it.
Well for me MK64 would have to be super-godly in order to better than Super Metroid by a wide margin.
In retrospect though, Super Metroid has never really been particularly strong in most board contests. It probably gets overvalued because next to no one actually hates the game in addition to its own loud fans (of which I seem to be one of the newest, yikes).
God of War II (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (6-11) 23 (57.50%) Dynasty Warriors 4 (Metroid Eater Conference) (0-17) 17 (42.50%) --GoW2 keeps DW4 winless.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (Nintendo Objections Conference) (14-3) 31 (72.09%) Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Brawl for Broke Conference) (3-14) 12 (27.91%) --DKC2 scores an easy win against Alpha 3.
Star Fox 64 (Twilight Barrel Galaxy Conference) (13-4) 31 (72.09%) Legend of Legaia (Thousand-Year World of Sunshine Conference) (2-15) 12 (27.91%) --Star Fox 64 mimics DKC2's performance against Legaia.
Dark Cloud 2 (Smash Trigger Conference) (5-12) 13 (31.71%) Shadow of the Colossus (Patriot Time Portals Conference) (8-9) 28 (68.29%) --The shadow of the Colossus is darker than the dark cloud.
Super Smash Bros. (Smash Trigger Conference) (9-8) 28 (62.22%) Ogre Battle 64 (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (3-14) 17 (37.78%) --Smash Bros. gives Smash Trigger three teams with winning records now with its win over Ogre Battle.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Cult RPG Galaxy Conference) (8-9) 17 (40.48%) Super Mario Sunshine (Thousand-Year World of Sunshine Conference) (7-10) 25 (59.52%) --The sun was not shining on DQ5 today.
Fallout 3 (Thousand-Year World of Sunshine Conference) (11-6) 21 (44.68%) Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (Games of the Decades Conference) (13-4) 26 (55.32%) --Fallout 3 puts up a strong showing, but it wasn't enough to beat G/S/C.
Crash Bandicoot: Warped (Metroid Eater Conference) (5-12) 17 (42.50%) Star Ocean: The Second Story (Smash Trigger Conference) (7-10) 23 (57.50%) --Star Ocean gets a relatively easy win over Crash Bandicoot.
Half-Life 2 (Sonic Overload Conference) (15-2) 23 (53.49%) The World Ends With You (Zelda Overload Conference) (9-8) 20 (46.51%) --Is this HL2's best win now? Hmmm...
Max Payne (Games of the Decades Conference) (3-14) 22 (52.38%) Guitar Hero II (Sonic Overload Conference) (1-16) 20 (47.62%) --Max Payne gets a rare win against Guitar Hero II.
#25 Mario Kart 64 (Twilight Barrel Galaxy Conference) (14-3) 23 (51.11%) Bioshock (Sonic Overload Conference) (11-6) 22 (48.89%) --Bioshock was down 6 going into page 2, and it gave a valiant effort to try to make the comeback, but it falls just short.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (Tanooki Blitzball Conference) (12-5) 24 (55.81%) Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (Thousand-Year World of Sunshine Conference) (10-7) 19 (44.19%) --Looks like Dante was still asleep for this one.
Earthbound (Games of the Decades Conference) (9-8) 26 (63.41%) Grand Theft Auto IV (Patriot Time Portals Conference) (4-13) 15 (36.59%) --Earthbound finally snaps its losing streak with an easy win over GTA4.
