You automatically start at the 20 after every TD. That's the practical affect of the new kickoff rule anyway.

Both the NBA and MLB have enacted changes mid-season based on overwhelming negative outcry (the new synthetic ball that everyone hated, and limited instant replay respectively). I wonder if that can happen in the NFL too, or if they're such hardasses about it that rule changes can only occur after scheduled offseason meetings by the Rules Committee?

If you get rid of kickoffs, you get rid of onside kickoffs by extension, making 4th quarter comebacks all but an impossibility.

So f*** anyone who wants to get rid of kickoffs altogether...

You know, "forbid icing on the PK" has been one of my ideas for MOAR GOALZ in the NHL for awhile now!

I don't really want it, but I think it's one of the LESS game-changing schemes being thought of.

More goals, yes, but it also makes getting any sort of penalty monumentally stupid, and then you have players just doing whatever they can to not get sent to the box.

It would be pretty hellish to kill penalties without being able to ice the puck.

Yeah, this is what ultimately made me not really be in favor of it. It just makes officiating decisions (which are usually terrible) that more critical.
