Marvel at the large areas of control that armies project compared to the puny ones from previous games. That's pretty much the sole reason I liked it so much.

I did definitely just do a custom battle as the pirates in a windy rainstorm vs the british and play PotC music over it

I never could get into it. It kind of turned me away from the Total War series a bit.

Still play the hell out of Rome though.

Well, I found a way to enjoy this, I found a mod called The Blue and The Grey which moves the grand campaign up to the US Civil War. And its really really awesome


I'm currently recruiting the elite brigade my great great great grandfather served in.

Empire would have been a lot better if it had stayed focused on Europe. The big map led to dumb things like all of France being one territory. Made no sense.

Also bad AI and BLARGH.

I have Shogun 2 also, for some reason it hasn't really been able to hold my interest either. I really don't understand that.

A shame. I love Shogun 2. One of my favorite games.

Any idea why they aren't cutting it for you? Maybe you're just not interested in the time periods?

I really don't know, Rome is in my top 10, and Medieval 1 and 2 were very enjoyable to me too.

I guess its just cause I'm really Euro centric with my history, and guns just aren't as exciting as swords. I should keep trying on Shogun 2, as its a great game.

I guess I can understand that too. I'm not too big of a fan of the "gunpowder" Total Wars either (that said, I DO love the use of muskets in the Shoguns). I much prefer the violent melee clashes of the other games.

If you're not interested in history outside of Europe, I don't think there is anything you can do about that. But I do suggest trying to be open. The sengoku era (1500s) is one of the most incredible periods in history.

I like it. I have like over 100 hours put into it. Even though I can't do any of the battles cause my laptop is too slow. I just have to let the computer decided for me.

yeah, for Empire, moves the game ahead to to 1861, rest of the world is still included too.

Man, that Blue/Gray mod looks neat and I'm in a big Civil War phase right now so I'd eat it up, but my PC still can't run Empire worth a damn. Oh well, someday.

I will say that including the entire world in the Civil War mod is silly, especially since it means the two countries only have like 5 territories apiece. Is it that hard to create a more detailed map for the America? A big North-South throwdown with 20 territories a side would be slick.
