It would be nice to choose among ones you have not seen, since I assume many of my "watch these" choices you've already seen. Hopefully all of them in fact =P
I didn't even realize Back to the Future was on that list. You should definitely watch that. It rivals The Matrix as best movie ever. You should also check out Halloween if you like Alien. I don't think that's on your list.

Depending on which ones you haven't seen, how have you not seen some of this stuff? It's pretty hard to pick just five. I would recommend some stuff just because it's pretty well-known everywhere and culturally significant, not because I necessarily like it (e.g. Star Wars).
Watch: Pulp Fiction Lion King Back to the Future Shawshank Redemption 12 Angry Men
Skip: Forgeting Sarah Marshall Matrix Revolutions Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
(books are better for the last two)
I'd say most of the list is definitely worth watching.
Must Watch: Dark Knight - personal favorite and the best superhero flick Pulp Fiction - Tarantino's magnus opus Matrix - one of the most revolutionary films that captured the world's imagination Sin City - shows what one could do with a visual medium such as film and it's also pretty freakin' awesome A Clockwork Orange - one of Stanley Kubrick's best and its themes and messages will make you think
Don't Watch: Armageddon - michael bay Borat - very hit or miss comedy Jumanji - meh Matrix Reloaded - the sequels ruin the experience of watching the first Matrix Revolutions
Watch 12 Angry Men. Proceed from there as you must.

"Principally I hate and detest the animal called man, although I heartily love John, Peter, Thomas and so forth" - Jonathan Swift BT with the victory!
Watch Aliens (Will spoil everything worth knowing about Alien lower in the post. But seeing as two choices is too many just watch this movie!) Shawshank Redemption (Ultimate Man Movie) Zombieland Schindler's List (obligatory nazi movie) Godfather part II
Don't Edward Scissorhands (should only be watched to teach symbolism to 5th graders if that) Sherlock Jr Armageddon (Bad movie that could either be fun to watch or rage inducing because the entire thing is in slow motion) Up (if you do only watch the first 10 min) Se7en
Spoilers for Alien
A commercial ship picks up an alien ship's SOS as they are going home and goes to check it out. Alien attacks a guy by attaching to his face. It just falls off and he seems to be okay though. Ship wasn't sending a SOS but a warning instead. They go about on their way until ohh **** Alien busts out the dude's chest at dinner. It gets away and they decide to kill it. Company robot can't have that though seeing as it's a new alien species and starts killing the crew. ****ing corporations. Company robot gets fubared by alien whom has fully grown during the robot's murderous rampage. Alien kills some more people. Last survivor gets rid of it (twice) and suspends herself in cryo sleep till someone finds the ship floating in space. Then Aliens start.
Watch: Lion King Raiders of the Lost Ark Shawshank Redemption T2 Judgement Day Back to the Future
(These were very, very hard to choose from. I could easily recommend at least 10 other films from this list)
Don't Watch: American Pie Armageddon Matrix Reloaded The Social Network Edward Scissorhands
(There are also quite a few that could have easily made it on this list, too)

Too many people dislike American Pie. I feel it's a very well made movie, it's entertaining, the characters work well together and it captures some of the emotions that dudes going up may or may not express, and takes them to the extreme (through Jim, anyway). Really love that movie.
Also, you know that term MILF? Where do you think that's from?

But that was my point. I'd never heard of it. I assumed it probably existed somewhere. American Pie is what made it huge.

It's a good comedy, but did you see the movies on that list? In comparison it isn't worth watching.

Must Watch: The Fountain (can't stress this enough. It's really Love it/Hate it for most people, but I guarantee you'll love it if you understand it) Children of Men Die Hard Raiders of the Lost Ark Matrix
I can see why people would have a bad idea about The Fountain based on that then.
The thing about The Fountain is that you cannot go in expecting something active and immediately catching. You have to actually invest in it to appreciate it because it has that thoughtful kind of pace that benefits from breaks between scenes to draw connections. I'm glad the entire movie doesn't hand you some two-bit words on life and death. It attempts to capture the uncertainty that shrouds mortality through three loose stories and a visual experience. It probably won't leave you feeling optimistic but that's entirely the point.
