vita has online in two ways - wi-fi and 3G if you get it with a data plan.

just be aware that all battery estimates right now assume neither exist. and one thing you'll quickly learn through any portable device is that an active online connection eats your battery like nothing else can.

yeah that's my thing with these portable fighters - are you going to sit there playing other Vita players? I prefer portables for almost everything but for a serious fighting game. hell, I wouldn't even want Smash on a portable.

that's the one thing I'm not looking forward to regarding the two Smash games for Wii U and 3DS is that you know they're both going to have exclusive characters to them.

even worse if Layton gets playable he'd probably be int he 3DS one since he's only been in handheld games, forcing me to get that version too.
