Genre doesn't matter. I've been playing Deus Ex and Renegade Ops recently, and since Diablo 3 is god knows how far away, I need something to scratch that itch temporarily.
Something on Steam would be best, but I'm open to suggestions.

I might continue with my Alchemist on Torchlight, but I find that game incredibly underwhelming. Titan Quest demo seemed pretty cool a few years ago, maybe I'll give that a shot.
MMOs are definitely interesting to me, but I'm looking for a more temporary thing.

Titan Quest is amazing imo, you can dual class and do pretty much whatever the **** you want.
For instance my first character was a fire mage that never used magic because her fire enchant was enough to destroy anything with melee, so I went with Warrior as my second class and I become an unstoppable juggernaut of destructions.
And it was awesome.

RPGs work. Ideally, I'm looking for something that has some sort of skill tree or loot system. Diablo 2 is a good example, but I know there are a lot of genres that can pull off the same thing.

Penny Arcade has been raving about Crimson Alliance. They say it's more like the Gauntlet games than like Diablo, though. It's free to play in only the loosest definition of the term, but to gain access to all the content out there is fifteen dollars.

Well The Dark Spire and Etrian Odyssey are dungeon crawlers with class and level systems. Etrian Odyssey has something similar to a skill tree, while The Dark Spire has you buy skills with experience points, and lets you equip a certain number of spells depending on your number of levels in the spellcasting classes.
