-Matches will last exactly 24 hours. Votes after that much time has elapsed will not be counted, even if a new topic hasn't gone up yet. -This is a contest to determine which character is the most *powerful*. Vote only for the character you think would win in a fight, not the one who's funnier, cooler, or sexier. If you don't do that I can't count your vote. -BOLD YOUR VOTE. Unbolded votes will NOT be counted. -Rallying is allowed. Alts are not. -Fights will take place in a neutral terrain. This does not necessarily mean a *featureless* terrain: assume that both characters will have a chance to use all of their skills to the fullest here, barring setting-specific abilities and anything that requires the presence of multiple enemies (but see below). -Characters start the fight alone. They don't bring allies with them, like Kerrigan and the Zerg Swarm for instance. Summons are allowed though, provided they're brought once combat has started. -Fighters retain their usual personalities. They won't fight to kill unless that's their MO, and won't spam their best attacks to win unless, again, that's how they act in their original media. -Similarly, fighters are unaware of their opponents capabilities at the start of the fight unless their powers facilitate them information (like knowing all there is to know in the universe - this would include who the opponent is and what he can do, as well as weaknesses) -You don't have to justify your vote, but it helps. If you feel like you can add something to the debate, go right ahead! -Seriously, BOLD THE VOTE. So important it bears repeating. -Bracket Link, for viewing past results and future matches: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?&tid=408528&tclass=

(3) Dante
From the Devil May Cry series, Dante Sparda is a mercenary and demon hunter who is half-demon himself. Cocky, confident, and fearless in battle, Dante fights using a variety of supernatural skills and powers; he has enough strength to punch through stone, enough agility to balance on a flying rocket, and possesses mastery of any weapon he picks up. He has incredible stamina and regeneration he can survive being impaled with a massive sword, falling through the stratosphere, etc.
Dante fights with the twin handguns Ebony and Ivory, which never have to be reloaded, as well as a variety of swords for melee fighting. Dante can also enter a state called Devil Trigger, which greatly increases his speed, attack, and health regeneration; sometimes his forms also grant him new abilities, like flying.
(6) Vampire Hunter D
From Vampire Hunter D, D is a dhampir, a half-breed vampire and human; he is thus an ideal vampire hunter. Often underestimated by his opponents, D possesses surprising power and resourcefulness; his supernatural powers make him one of the strongest beings in the world. However, D prefers to use his physical abilities, only using his magic in desperate times. He can temporarily awaken his vampire side and increase his strength by drinking his own blood; he also possesses a sword that nullifies regeneration. His sword has been described as being able to cut through anything.
D's left hand plays host to a symbiote called, fittingly, Left Hand; it possesses the ability to suck in matter, psychometry (object-reading), inducing sleep, and the ability to size up an opponent's powers. Left Hand can also revive D when he is near-death, converting the four elements into life force; at one point it was able to absorb an atomic charge after it had gone off.
Dante shows off his regen so often that I'm sure D would hit him. He's never serious enough and from what it seems, only dodges things that he'd know for sure would kill him.
See: DMC1, DMC3, and DMC4's intros, along with stuff like DMC3 with Lady. He's sloppy as hell on avoiding stuff because he takes his regen as way too much of a given.

also would you say Yamato and Rebellion are anti regen as well (just going by Dante VS Vergil round 2 since they were both bleeding constantly / getting tired)
dunno though.

Sounds like D probably wins this thanks to the anti-regen sword, I seem to recall we had this match in a past MPFC and they seemed to be in the same realm of physical ability.

We clasped our hands, our hands in praise of a conquerors right to tyranny
Both are pretty ridiculous, although D tends to take more damage from fights and takes a little while to recover from some of it. Though he's still ridiculously tanky (being killed and coming back to life two or three times, surviving having his entire body completely liquefied, winning fights against large numbers of opponents midday while raining after ripping out rapidly regenerating bloodsucking plants growing inside his veins without anesthetic while having his reflexes/senses dulled by mind control, etc.) and it would probably take decapitation/stabbed through the heart to stop him.
Dante probably has better offensive abilities thanks to the various devil arms, although he tends to show off while D is pretty no frills and always goes straight to lethal blows like decapitation or slicing them in half or at least stabbing them through the heart.

The only certain death in the universe is Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons. Not changing this line until I beat Seven Heroes (2/24/07)
I am going to vote for D here I have no doubts that he would be able to land hits on Dante since he does have a fast enough reaction time to cut and somehow shatter lightning.

A signature I just don't know what to say in it besides LIVE FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!!!
Up this goes. Curious about how D could deal with Dante busting out Yamato to rip things up, for instance.

Well, just dodge. Not to mention, Yamato's rarely ever used by Dante, given it's known for being his brother's sword and then he ends up giving it to Nero too.

D pretty easily wins this. vampires in D's series kill birds near the stratosphere pretty casually to make a game out of it, he's got bugs that turn into black holes in his arsenal, he's cut lightning, etc.

and they seemed to be in the same realm of physical ability.
the only comparable value is strength and maybe running speed. D dwarfs him in pretty much everything else, and the left hand's got nasty tricks to it.

I looked at the dating of Vampire Hunter, and it's within the AD years, so, far before guns and such would have come into existence...
So if Dante is able to barrage D with guns and such, he'd have a large advantage, and unlike D, he doesn't grow too weary with the lengths of battle...
Both would be on par with strength, agility, etc... so it would depend, what is Dante more likely to use, guns or swords?
...haha, not really no. the series has waaay better tech than us today. guns? guns are treated as a joke in the series. try lasers. which D and other vampires consider as jokes anyway. >_>;

his left hand alone has better tech than pretty much everything in dmc. and if you're seriously arguing anything to do with the gameplay styles you're beyond help.

Definitely not a lie. DMC1 opens with him purposefully taking hits from Trish, DMC3 opens up with him getting impaled by like 5 generic dust demons and later on taking pistol shots to the head from Lady (a human girl) for no reason, and DMC4 opens up with Nero chucking a giant 20+ foot long stone sword to impale him and pin him to a statue with it.

Speed: The greatest speed feat D boasts is having a sword that's faster than a laser. It's mentioned in all of the books, and in the latest novel was also told as D being able to chop down a laser. If it's simply a rumor, it's apparently a very popular one as a foe switched from a laser to a missile-gun before facing him.
D was able to cut down a werewolf who can double jump and attack silently from any angle, moving at half the speed of sound, while drawing his sword from his back. For any interested, it was mentioned that the werewolf's attack had taken less than a fiftieth of a second.
He can throw 1 foot long wooden needles so fast that they burn white with flame, and faster than the naked eye can follow. When throwing one at a vampire, it looked as though a flash of light simply appeared in front of D, when that vampire had actually caught and returned it with the same unfathomable speed.
D easily slaughtered a being whose speed allowed him to create dozens of after-images around him.
He can knock bullets, and stakes moving as fast bullets (1500 mph), out of the air with his sword. He once brushed away buckshot from two double-barreled shotguns with a weed he picked up as the fight began. He also redirected miniature missiles moving at 1500 mph by timing it so that his cloak redirected their flight (without activating the impact based fuses).
D was able to cut lightning before it hit its target, transforming it into a shower of harmless sparks.
D's running speed is quite low compared to his attack and reaction speed. The highest stated so far was around 60 mph, or 50 yards in three seconds flat in rain that decreased his speed to 70% of its max.
His short distance movement is enough to leave afterimages that make it appear as though an enemy's attack landed.
In the 6th novel D took down 10 armed gunmen, on horses, meters away, in under 2 seconds.
In the latest novel he cuts down 6 men (either bisecting them, or chopping their heads off) in what was described as "...in the time it took to blink."
Strength: D's strength may not be as monstrous as that of some of his vampire brethrens', but it's still exceptional.
D was able to overpower and shatter the arms of 3 roughened frontier men wearing battle suits. Suits said to give the strength of 500 men, as well as tremendously increased reaction speed . Some "seceret skill" was also involved, though it was mentioned that D's dhampir strength was a necessary factor.
Easily pushed open a steel door that twenty men in their prime would have had a hard time budging.
His sword easily cut through an iron club like a hot knife through butter. Normal steel is nothing before him. A bo (battle staff) strong enough to shatter rocks nearly as hard as diamond, with a steel core capable of standing up to lasers, was chopped in twain. And in the latest novel, a bar of zeramium steel ("Shoot, it'd take a laser an hour to cut into it a fraction of an inch.") was cut down in a single slice.
Survived falling 650 feet with a small girl. They both survived without a single scratch.
Showed no sign of wear while channeling 50,000 volts of electricity. He even willed the current into the opposite direction somehow.
His cloak was able to fend off the flames of an ultracompact atomic grenade. They also absorbed half of the impact from an impact canon that reduced a stone wall to dust.
Took pain comparable to having a needle driven through every single cell in his body without becoming distracted. He did however slightly knit his brow .
-- "Give him a fair trial. Then shoot him." - Napoleon Bonaparte after the capture of Andreas Hofer
Surived being thrown head first into a stone wall, by a blast of energy that destroyed hundreds of tons of rock.
Had a bomb explode in the same room as him (with no cover). Not a scratch or singe could be found on his cloak or body.
Skill
One aspect of D's fighting is his unholy skill.
D's sword can cause wounds that even a regeneration strong enough to repel bullets can't easily heal.
In the 9th novel he cuts down holograms. Conglomerations of electrons completely unaffected by normal attacks, but capable of dealing physical harm with their weapons, were cut down by D.
One technique involves catching an opponent's thrusting blade, and through some secret art, stopping any movement the opponent might attempt at that point. Then throwing the captured opponent and the blade with bone-crushing force.
D can direct his wooden needles with insane accuracy and skill. He was able to attack an airborne figure from a vertical angle with a rebounded needle, and also shattered that figure's kneecap with another needle's rebound. His skill is also so great, the thrown wooden needle can become embedded in stone.
By somehow utilizing his cloak, he can knock a lesser vampire out cold for several hours.
Left Hand
As most know, D's left hand is inhabited by a carbuncle. This creature is quit powerful on his own.
The carbuncle can consume and gain energy from the four elements, as well as energy attacks and more. It once sucked in a huge cloud of spiders in an instant, and is able to analyze anything it eats, licks, or touches.
In the 6th novel, it absorbed hurricane force winds capable of blowing D away.
It also sucked up a deep pool of water, and created a gale so strong that conjured soldiers were literally torn apart by it.
And it once sucked a nuclear lamp (said to be able to last 15 years) dry in a matter of minutes.
It can also invade the minds of those it touches, drawing forth knowledge, or anything else it desires.
As for the carbuncle's physical capabilities: Stopping swords with it's teeth, firing branches with insane speed, and biting through multiple tentacles in one pass are nothing to it.
At full power, it enabled D to escape from a sealed dimension, and put D in a state that can only be described as transcendent. Remnants of this state were able to block an attack from a being made out of pure energy.
And in the 9th novel it was able to concoct a substance from D's blood that allowed D to deal harm to Death Essence (literally Death in the form of a white mist, anything that came into contact with it would die or rot).
