Parks and Recreation may be the overall best sitcom at the moment, but in terms of pure comedy, I think Archer wins. I don't think a sitcom's made me laugh this hard since Arrested Development!
I'm almost done with Season One. How's S2 in comparison?

Season One is. Watch it ASAP - if it has a long lifespan, I think it could honestly challenge The Simpsons for the title of "best animated sitcom ever."

Arrested Development and Parks and Recreation are both amazing, but neither one of them made me laugh out loud all that much. A few hilarious scenes and many quiet chuckles.
South Park, Always Sunny, Californication all made me laugh out loud much more frequently.

I like South Park a fair amount, but it doesn't seem like a top-tier comedy to me. It's, like, in 8/10 territory. One of these days, I'll give Always Sunny another chance - back when it came out, I tried watching some of it, and I just couldn't get into it at all.
As for Californication? I haven't seen it, honestly. Is it on Netflix Instant?

I'm looking forward to Netflix Instant getting S1 of Community. I'll be honest with ya - the bits and pieces I've seen of the show haven't impressed me in the slightest. But I have a feeling it'll be one of those "Modern Family"-type shows that grows on you considerably after a dozen episodes or so.

The first episode is meh, after that it just explodes into awesome. There were a couple of lame episodes in season 2, but it's forgivable due to the sheer number of 10/10 episodes already.

Yeah, you might have to stick with it a bit, about halfway through the first season for some people. It clicks really early for some, later for others. I started to really like it with the second episode and loved it by the seventh. It really starts to get better once you (and to a certain extent, the writers and actors) get a handle on who the characters are. It's almost nothing like Arrested Development in tone but that's the closest thing I can compare it to. Just a genius show.

I hear S2 has a lot of really gimmicky episodes. I could see that really grating on my nerves - that's probably my #1 sitcom pet peeve.
Still though, Chevy Chase is in it, and Alison Brie couldn't be any cuter. How bad could it be? :P
MarvelousGerbil posted... From: TheCodeisBosco | #014 H. Jon Benjamin is the mutha****ing man. His voice is so epic that it makes Bob's Burgers almost watchable. Almost. Yeah, worst career choice possible IMO. Does anyone know if Jon Benjamin has a van any good? I never managed to catch it.
I haven't seen "Van" either, but I do know that he made an even worse career choice than Bob's Burgers. Have you seen that new Adult Swim show he's in, "Soul Quest Overdrive"? It might literally be the worst show ever made, and I've seen some bloody awful ones.

There are "gimmick" episodes, yes. But a big part of the show is trope subversion and lampshading. These episodes are unlike anything you'd expect. They're also really well written so that they work in universe. It's hard to explain but there's not much to be afraid of. A lot of the episodes are more genre homages than anything else. It's really great.
The Community gimmick episodes are incredible. Mockumentary episode, clip show episode, easily both in my top 5.
But yeah I would definitely recommend the DVD packs on Amazon, $20 for each season, comes with each episode in HD, entertaining commentary on each episode, extra scenes and such. Or you could just watch it on netflix for free I guess....
also dat Alison Brie

I can't lie, I'm worried that the "meta" aspects of Community are going to strike me as really pretentious... but I was worried that Parks and Rec was gonna be pretentious too, and look how that turned out! I'll get started on S1 soon, most likely; might even start a watch-through topic for it, if I have time (and Netflix continues to insist on keeping P&R: S3 off the instant queue).

According to someone on IMDB, the DVD is coming out December 27th.

I take it you're a Louie fan? I love that show too, but honestly, I don't think it's particularly funny. I tune in primarily because the dramatic/darker aspects of the show are so incredibly well-done.

Wilfred isn't always laugh out loud hilarious but it's a really well done high concept show and it is quite funny. It's more of a WTF show, even with it's humor. It can be pretty crude sometimes but it pulls it off with a certain level of finesse so as to not be derivative or stale. It always has a few great Lost style endings with the season ending being an actual homage to the show. It's unlike anything else on tv and really well done. I highly recommend it.
"Wow, what a p****! I could barely even keep up, he was spilling the beans so fast." "Well, you threatened to shove a knife up his d***-hole. Which, again, ick!" "Well, excuse me, Lana. It's a rampage!"

Archer is very, very good however.
I hadn't heard of Peep Show until now, but after looking it up on Wikipedia, I'm definitely interested. I was surprised to find that it's lasted so long - needless to say, your typical British sitcom doesn't have such a long lifespan!
So, most of y'all think Wilfred is worthwhile? I think it looks awful, to be frank; but of course, FX can typically be trusted when it comes to sitcoms.
