sorry writeups are short this week. My internet has been on and off on hours I can actually listen so i havnt had the time i would really like.
1. Seg - Kiss Kiss - Janet Okay, this was amazing. Composition wise and the way everything comes together in the song. I was ready to hate it until it just exploded. But who could hate this?
9.0
2. Temple of the Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven Okay, I can get behind this. So much emotion and just good power and everything mixed in.
8.5
3. Girls - Die That guitar is just so good.
8.0
4. Whakko - Weeping Willows - Broken Promise Land Instrumentally this song is really good. Gives it a great feeling. I'm so so on the vocals. He has a good voice, but for some reason the small range makes it hard to really get into it all the way. Even so...
8.0
5. Frank Ocean - Thinking About You The bass seems a little heavy, wish there was a little more instrumentality in this. The high vocals are just bad, no way around that, but the normal ones are pretty smooth.
5.5
6. Albert Hammond Jr. - In Transit Decent enough. Wish they did a little more with it instrumentally and toned back some of that wailing. You can tell that there is some Strokes like influence here.
5.5
7. Calvin Harris - Feel So Close Started great, but just got too repetitive.
5.0
8. Röyksopp - In Space I played this and forgot it was playing. I listened to it again, and the problem for me is that nothing in the song really stood out. Not a bad song, but just not memorable.
5.0
9. Main Attrakionz (feat. ASAP Rocky) - Take 1 Eh, not really my style of rap.
4.0
10. The Flaming Lips - Evil Minds Seem a little gimmicky, even for me. Nothing really happens and the weird distorted vocals are actually very annoying.
3.0
11. Gang Gang Dance - House Jam Some of this sounds pretty cool, and a lot of it just seems kinda out of place. The vocals are just kinda...grating. Moments of cool guitar are present, but not enough to make up for the rest.
1. Snowy - Trio Töykeät - Get a Life Aw yeah jazz piano. It changes up enough the whole way through that I end up enjoying it, although I wish for better quality. 8.7/10
2. Not Dave: Girls - Die Nice fast-paced song with an entertaining solo. 8.2/10
3. Seg - Kiss Kiss - Janet This one was better than I expected it to be. 7.5/10
4. Icon - Gang Gang Dance - House Jam This one took me a while to get through. For some reason everytime I tried to listen I would be interrupted and distracted, then have to start over. It's pretty good, though I don't like the vocal style a whole lot. Still, I want to look into their discography a bit more... Is their self-titled a good place to start? 7.4/10
5. Whakko - Weeping Willows - Broken Promise Land Needs more horns :) But seriously, this is a nice 50's pop influenced number. 7.2/10
6. Cokes - Temple of the Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven You may be shocked to hear, but I really don't like Chris Cornell's voice. In fact, I like just about everything in this one except his voice. That keeps it from getting a high score, I'm afraid. 6.8/10
7. KCF - Albert Hammond Jr. - In Transit I had heard this one before, and I can only say it is okay. The song didn't become anymore likable as I listened through it. 6.5/10
8. Carl? - Motion City Soundtrack ~ Disappear Motion City Soundtrack has some decent stuff, but most of their stuff is mediocre. This song is pretty mediocre. 5.8/10
9. Lockes - The Flaming Lips - Evil Minds Despite the first 15 seconds being ear rape, this track was tolerable. 5.6/10
10. Vince - Frank Ocean - Thinking About You Wasn't really feeling this one, unfortunately. 5.4/10
11. JC - Calvin Harris - Feel So Close What is this? I have to echo everyone else and say that I liked the beginning much more than the rest. 5.1/10
12. Giggs - Main Attrakionz (feat. ASAP Rocky) - Take 1 I mean no disrespect but I thought that this was just awful. I think the most enjoyable part was the sample at the end(isn't saying much). 2.3/10

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
Kiss Kiss - Janet The vocals were a weird for me but the rest was enough to make it good. SOME GRUMPINESS REMOVED.
Temple of the Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven Six songs in and somehow Cokes has the best song. This week is clearly not a good one (jk cokes).
Girls - Die This was weird because it was so variant the whole way through. I wasn't a huge fan of it though. There is a huge problem when something I am not a huge fan of is in third.
Flaming Lips - Evil Minds Meh. Completely neutral to this. Guitar was a little calming. Pulled me slightly out of grumpiness but just barely. It sounds like something I could listen to and not even realize I'm listen- sorry I forgot what I was doing but I hear this weird background noise that might be music.
Royskopp - In Space I DIDN'T KNOW I COULD PLAY ENDLESS OCEAN ON THE YOUTUBES
Albert Hammond Jr. - In Transit This qualifies as "I could easily forget I'm listening to it" as well as the Evil Minds but it was more enjoyable. No song has been able to pull me out of the grumpiness yet (5th listened to) a Weeping Willows - Broken Promised Land BEEP BEEP GOES THE TIME MACHINE. This gave me a weird EARLY 20TH CENTURY feeling even though I shouldn't have a point of reference for that. Huh.
Motion City Soundtrack - Disappear I was really hoping this would be a soundtrack and not a band like this. The lyrics are bad.
Frank Ocean - Thinking About You Quick, hide the helium before he gets to the chorus again.
Gang Gang Dance - House Jam I don't really like any part of this. Not much to say about it. Didn't help relieve my grumpiness. Probably made me more grumpy. Her voice cracks like 900000000 times in the song.
Main Attrakionz This was boring and then he said "get on my dick" (I think) and I chuckled. Otherwise it was just a snoozefest and managed to have less appeal than House Jam. (also attrakion). Also too much n-word spam

the internet at my flat is completely dead for some reason, so if my ****ty landlord doesn't get his ass into gear i may not be able to do this week's.
Girls - Die - The song started as noise rock, then it gives us garage rock revival, and finally moves into a pink floydian space of wah-wah pedals and flutes. Very entertaining! 8/10
Albert Hammond Jr. - In Transit - Never liked The Strokes, never liked AHJr. when he was posted before in the sotw. This song, sadly, did not improve my opinion of the man's music. I don't often say this, but it's boring! 4/10
Frank Ocean - Thinking About You - "All style no substance" applies here. His voice sounds great but the song was slow and uninteresting, providing little appeal other than his falsetto voice. 4/10
Main Attrakionz - Take 1 - The beat was alright...sounded more like Kno or Blue Sky Black Death than anything OF would do. I guess that's just how the hype train works. The rapping was more interesting though I can't remember a damn thing that was said at the moment. 6/10
Weeping Willows - Broken Promise Land - As far as I'm concerned a song can never have too much orchestration. I'm glad this was recommended, because this kind of music is necessary. 9/10
Calvin Harris - Feel So Close - I enjoyed the direction it took for the parts where the guy wasn't singing. The main riff was pretty cool bro way to go 7/10
Gang Gang Dance - House Jam - Not my sorta thing, though better than most Icon recs have been so far. 6.5/10 Main Attrakionz (feat. ASAP Rocky) - Take 1 - Yes. 8.5/10 The Flaming Lips - Evil Minds - Not top tier Flaming Lips, but good. 7/10 Motion City Soundtrack ~ Disappear - If you ever come to Boston, I'm going to punch you in the throat. 2/10 Albert Hammond Jr. - In Transit - I don't really dig The Strokes, and Albert Hammond Jr's solo stuff excites me less. 6.5/10 Kiss Kiss - Janet - If had gotten to this on Tuesday, it probably would have won the week. Even in a brighter mood, this is still great. 8/10 Weeping Willows - Broken Promise Land - This sounds like a song that would be submitted for Best Original Song at the Oscars and wouldn't get nominated. 5.5/10 Röyksopp - In Space - Pleasant, relaxing. 7/10 Frank Ocean - Thinking About You - Good song, better video. 7.5/10 Calvin Harris - Feel So Close - I feel like JC has been threatening us with this in B8C for a while. I can see why. 4/10 Girls - Die - This is a band I have been meaning to look into. Thanks for giving me good reason to. 9/10 Trio Töykeät - Get a Life - Very enjoyable. 8/10
Die Take 1 Get a Life Janet Thinking About You In Space Evil Minds House Jam In Transit Broken Promise Land Feel So Close Disappear

Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive
Flaming Lips - Evil Mind - I thought I was listening to Secret Machines for a bit there, in the mantra drugscape guitar solo. Evil was not present here. 7/10
Motion City Soundtrack - Disappear - Pop-punk has the ability to alienate me more than any kind of music. I can deal with country because people party to that **** out in the desert, but pop-punk is an alarm bell telling me I do not belong in the room. 2/10
Gang Gang Dance - House Jam - Catchy and all over the place. "Truly we are dancer" said the electric guitar as the voices were sampled 8/10
Trio Toykeat - Get A Life - Good swing and energy, pianist overdid it at some points with the gratuitous ascending chromatic chord + scale runs, but I liked his aggro style for the pentatonic/minor key melodies. The main phrase could have been more subdued but that's virtuoso piano playing for you. 6/10
Royksopp - In Space - Nice and easy to listen to but for all it's movin around it seemed to be unable to gather momentum. I'm sure they have better stuff though, I hear 'em on the radio all the time. 6/10
Temple Of The Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven - Worthy supergroup... song not as classic as Hunger Strike but still a tune you hear on the radio to this day. I'll never turn it off...7/10
Weeping Willows - Broken Promise Land Girls - Die Flaming Lips - Evil Mind Temple Of The Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven Calvin Harris - Feel So Close Main Attrakionz - Take 1 Royksopp - In Space Trio Toykeat - Get A Life Albert Hammond Jr. - In Transit Frank Ocean - Thinking About You Motion City Soundtrack - Disappear
i hate to be "that guy" but there's no way i'm going to be able to keep up with this in a way that's not going to end up with me being late every single week so i'm gonna pull out
sorry guys!
