I'm writing a paper supporting academic integrity, but need the other side of the argument as well.. so why is it important to work hard and honestly?

Wouldn't the other side of an argument supporting academic integrity would be why it's ok to cheat?

This.

But either way...

The purpose of grades is to indicate how well students know the material. Cheating undermines this, and causes grades to lose their meaning. If cheating becomes rampant, grades become useless.

Cheating also tends to decrease how much a student actually learns since they typically won't study as much if they are going to cheat, and if they are cheating they probably don't know the material very well.

So cheating leads to a decrease in learning which is obviously not good.

Cheating is the easy way out. You don't fully develop that way.

Is this an actual question?

If you don't cheat, you actually learn stuff. Hard work breeds success. Honesty allows others to trust you and to gain a reputation for trustworthiness. Honesty in academics prepares you for honesty in your career.

Also, according to Kantian philosophy, being honest is always the right thing to do.

There are a lot of things that are "according to Kantian philosophy," most of which are pretty hard to stomach (let your friend die to maintain your integrity? OK!). You can't really pick and choose imperatives from a complex system.
