When that big countdown (er... countup? Counter.) hits 6,000,000, which will probably happen within the next 24 hours, everyone with a GoG account will be able to get Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Director's Cut for free! And don't worry if you don't like the changes in the DC, as you also get the original, version, pre-configured to run on modern incarnations of Windows.

And you get to revel in the fact that GoG have sold six million DRM free games in under three years. Traditional publishers take note, and stop treating customers like criminals.

Oh yes, and if you happen to be the lucky person to get the six millionth download, you win the entire GoG catalogue. That's a LOT of good old games.

It's really the nicest online system I've seen. You have an account, and when you buy games they're added to your account. Whenever you're logged in, you can start a download of whatever you want. They have a download manager to make sure the downloads go nicely (and it's quite fast too). Then it's just running the .exe and playing.

You have full control over the files so you don't need to worry about modding being harder since it's downloaded. I just got Baldur's Gate running last week, and modding it was just as easy it would've been if I had the disk -- actually probably easier since I didn't have to switch the disks during install!

It's the best online distribution system I've seen. Though US users have to deal with banks rejecting your transactions since they're based in Europe. I ran my payment through Paypal and it went okay.

Okay, you guys have convinced me to download it. I'm probably not going to buy much, if anything at all. I find it to be a massive inconvenience to have digital games stuck on separate programs. I don't even buy much digital games to begin with.

That said, I shouldn't have any problems purchasing a game if I decide to, since I do use Paypal.

Well with GoG you don't have to open a program or anything, once the game is installed it's the same as if you had bought a game from a store and installed it with the discs, except that they'll be in the GoG folder by default.

Well that's the way it should be. I bought the GotY edition of Borderlands on Steam and getting the DLC to work was the most annoying time I've ever had with getting a game to work.
