I'm a little familiar with this since seven kids died in an avalanche on an OE trip at my school, and a year later a girl died on her way home from a drama rehearsal.

It was a long time ago, but still extremely sad. This stuff sucks Anri, it really does. :(

What accident?

Either way, that's awful. I didn't have many student deaths when I was in high school, but there were a few I think. Really sad when it happens, no matter what the case. They're too young and still have plenty of life left to grow.

Car accident on the way home from school.

Three died and two were treated and released last night.

Damn that sucks man, my prayers with you and everyone at your school, and the families of the victims.

Only two people died from my school while I was in high school, and neither were in my grade, though one guy I graduated with committed suicide just months after graduation.

I've been on both ends of that -- as a student and as a teacher. In both cases, the death was a suicide and thus only a single person, but that doesn't make it any easier. Take it easy on them, and don't dwell on your last moments with him. I may not know exactly what happened, but I seriously doubt you made him angry and that rage led to the accident...I know you'll think that at some point no matter how likely or unlikely it was, and that isn't healthy. While sometimes teachers can be there to prevent things from happening, a teacher who cares will seldom cause anything like that.

Just do your best to be supportive of your students tomorrow, and hope the weekend can wash the hurt away and you can get back to business. Honestly, in most regards, the best thing you can do is to continue teaching. Certainly on the days after the news hits, if not necessarily the day of. Anything to put their minds in a different place is a good thing.

It could happen to anyone, especially high school kids driving. I remember being in a car that another student was driving at like 90 miles per hour down the street in front of the school, thinking that if he crashed, all five of us would die. We made it back safe but that was probably the most frightened I've ever been for my safety.

My condolences.

He constantly would literally get up out of his seat and start small fights.

In the middle of lecturing, I wrote one girl up (for yelling the F word while my door was open) and sent her out of the room.

He got up and (for no reason, he isn't even friends with this girl) said "if she goes, I go" and started walking out the door.

Everyone (including me) laughed but as he walked out the door, I pulled him back in by his book bag and made him sit in the back corner.

He was a funny kid but he never put forth an ounce of effort.
