Gill makes sense because he's a broken boss-character, and system only characters also make sense because tournaments could then come down to what system it's being played on and that's not fair to an entire community. I honestly have no idea about the Tekken thing though.

I think you guys overestimate how much we thought of the community in the first place. This doesn't make us think less of the Brawl community since we never had respect for them anyway!

Still I fell out of it because I can't play a fighter with no online mode anymore.

To be fair, wasn't this the result of other things being banned slowly, some of which were due to HG/SS adding new moves to said pokemon? I don't really pay attention to competitive pokemon, but that's how I understood it at the time.

Hm...looking at the moves it picked up later...Platinum HG/SS gave it Outrage from a move tutor, so that's sort-of a big deal.

But I thought the reasoning was more "It can easily force a switchout given Intimidate, and between Earthquake, Flamethrower, and Draco Meteor there's no safe switch-in, so it becomes a guessing game".

Salamence was banned primarily due to Dragon Dance. One of those plus Outrage since it got a 33% power increase at some point generally meant something was going to die thanks to Dragons type coverage

Anyway, as far as attendance goes, it'll likely be a wash. As others have already said, the Brawl community is no longer relevant, so those who still play are pretty passionate about it. Those few who will drop due to the Metaknight ban will likely be made up for in full by others who rejoin the community because a broken-as-all-hell character finally got the treatment he deserves.

Salamence ban never made any sense to me. It was far too late in the games life to really matter, and I never found him more of an asspain than he usually is. Salamence has always been super strong.

Competitive Pokemon's a joke now, just because there's so much crap that can be considered a game breaker and they have to ban it all.

Once you start banning certain ability combinations, I think it's time to hang it up.

To be fair, Dragon Dance has always been an egg move of Salamence. Just like Roost has always been sitting around as a TM of Salamence. But yeah, it didn't have Outrage to combo it with.

(But yeah, as with any pokemon banning it's a combination of factors. I mean, Dragonite's been able to do Dragon Dance + Outrage for way longer than Salamence...and nobody cares).

Dragonite doesn't have the stat distribution to abuse it . Mence has much more attack and speed, while Nite is just a bit too bulky for it's own good. Athough Mence is no longer Uber I believe.

BW is a different metagame. The addition of strong fast hitting pokemon, new abilities and the choice to bring a bunch of Uber pokemon down at the same time makes Mence relatively weaker.

The smash community is just salty that Sakurai bodied them. Seriously, Brawl was expertly crafted to expose the community for how bad they are, and I love it.

This, but less extreme.

I don't hate the competitive Smash community or anything, but I don't particularly rate either Melee or Brawl as a competitive game, Brawl in particular. They're great party sideshows, not much more for me.

alphazealot was a notable tournament host from the midwest who was chosen to run the MLG tournaments before the brawl community ****ed up repeatedly and got kicked off MLG(go figure)

about a year ago he announces that he is overthrowing the formerly powerless brawl back room which just made ruleset suggestions, with a new BBR ruleset committee which would make mandatory rules. prior to this point the BBR created a recommended ruleset and each tournament host would customize it to some degree, each region tended to have differing rules. AZ, not being content to let people do what they please and have choices, spent a long time organizing a conspiracy behind the scenes with MLG, who owns smashboards, neal the owner of all is brawl, and a few other highly influential tournament hosts. with this announcement it was made official that if you tried to run a tournament not following his committee's rules, it would not be featured on SWF or AIB which is basically the entirety of the competitive smash community. as a result of this, pictochat was a legal stage nationally for a good while and brawl became even more of a joke than it was before.
