Isn't that basically what Power Rangers RPM is? I don't watch the show, but I've seen bits about it on TVTropes, and apparently it's basically Mighty Morphin + GRIMDARK.

RPM is more like "Power Rangers but self aware." It has a better plot, yeah, but it acknowledges how dumb it is. It's like the Scooby Doo Mystery Inc of Power Rangers.

I don't want to see anything made by Michael Bay ever again, but it would be interesting to see a version of MMPR with top notch fight choreography and special effects for the Zords/monsters instead of dudes in suits.

But I kinda think it might lose some of its charm.
