-Matches will last exactly 24 hours. Votes after that much time has elapsed will not be counted, even if a new topic hasn't gone up yet. -This is a contest to determine which character is the most *powerful*. Vote only for the character you think would win in a fight, not the one who's funnier, cooler, or sexier. If you don't do that I can't count your vote. -BOLD YOUR VOTE. Unbolded votes will NOT be counted. -Rallying is allowed. Alts are not. -Fights will take place in a neutral terrain. This does not necessarily mean a *featureless* terrain: assume that both characters will have a chance to use all of their skills to the fullest here, barring setting-specific abilities and anything that requires the presence of multiple enemies (but see below). -Characters start the fight alone. They don't bring allies with them, like Kerrigan and the Zerg Swarm for instance. Summons are allowed though, provided they're brought once combat has started. -Fighters retain their usual personalities. They won't fight to kill unless that's their MO, and won't spam their best attacks to win unless, again, that's how they act in their original media. -Similarly, fighters are unaware of their opponents capabilities at the start of the fight unless their powers facilitate them information (like knowing all there is to know in the universe - this would include who the opponent is and what he can do, as well as weaknesses) -You don't have to justify your vote, but it helps. If you feel like you can add something to the debate, go right ahead! -Seriously, BOLD THE VOTE. So important it bears repeating. -Bracket Link, for viewing past results and future matches: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?&tid=408528&tclass=
Past Results: As expected, the battle between contest powerhouses Yuki Nagato and Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was a titanic clash. Though nearly equal in votes as it came down to the final minutes, in the end Nagato managed to do the impossible, and put down the spiral power wielding Gurren Lagann in the closest battle of the season so far. Now, the Witch/Time division is hers for the taking. Votals: 17-16
(1) Laharl From Disgaea, Laharl is the youngest Overlord in the cosmos. Selfish and arrogant, Laharl's level of 1500 (in Disgaea terms, levels and stats are actual, tangible concepts) places him on a high power tier, among the strongest beings in the universe after the Overlord Baal; He is known for his feat of destroying a fleet of 2 million spaceships in 10 minutes without killing a soul. In a bad ending of Disgaea 2, he destroys the planet he is fighting on out of sheer annoyance.
Laharl's techniques include Blazing Knuckle (jumps into the air and landing on the foe in a burst of mana and fire), Overlord's Wrath (summons hundreds of energy balls that rain down on his target), and Meteor Impact (summons a large meteor Laharl then rides on). Laharl used to be weak to positive thinking, kindness, and large breasts; he has since overcome these weaknesses, though he can still be knocked off-guard by them.

(8) Kurou Daijuuji From Roar of the Machine God Demonbane, Kurou Daijuuji is a detective who forms a pact with the living Necronomicon, Al-Azif, and earns the right to power the God Machine, Demonbane. While a low-superhuman on foot when imbued with the power of the Demonbane, Kurou is a much greater threat while piloting the God Machine. It possesses a vast array of attacks, including binding spells, illusions, and the Shining Trapezohedron, a blade that can seal or erase anything from existence. Some of its most powerful attacks include the Lemuria Impact, which applies an infinite amount of pressure and heat on a specific point in space, and the Athleta Aeternum, which summons every Demonbane to exist and those that won't to attack.

First off, Kurou is actually able to do his stuff, right? Which means Al is around. Otherwise he'd be completely gimped.

It can be assumed that Al-Azif is powering the God Machine yes. I'm fuzzy on Demonbane details (trying to find the showings for it is complicated because final form demonbane keeps coming up and I'm not sure which one people nommed), but depending on how it works this could mean she is actually *there* or the God Machine has the juice it needs to function.

From: DeathChicken | #004 Depends on if Kurou can finish Laharl off while he's inevitably standing around laughing about being a mighty Overlord
The better question is if Kurou is a hidden literal godstomper or if he's in his more sane form. He might be able to outmech STTGL if a couple things check out.

Anyway, let me attempt to go into more detail about Kurou since I've read the source.
First off, Kurou starts the fight by entering Magius Form (wings, sorcery, can use his equipment) instantly, without question. He also summons either Scimitar of Barzai or Cthugha/Ithaqua to start the fight; not sure which he'd prefer. He won't summon Demonbane unless he's getting his ass kicked, but he has shown willingness to summon it even against human-sized enemies.
Atlach-Natla: Spider web; not that hard to cut, but really good at slowing stuff down.
Mirror of Nitocris: Illusions; he can also use it to reflect beams.
Scimitar of Barzai: Flaming sword/boomerang, really sharp, also makes him better at sorcery.
Cthugha/Ithaqua: His go-to weapons, a pair of guns. By default, they both have six rounds before he has to reload; Cthugha shoots flaming exploding bullets, while Ithaqua shoots freezing homing bullets. He can also use a limited number of God-Beast shells, which summon the true form of the weapons; he wiped out at least 100 minor gods with just one of the shells, and their default form is capable of taking down one of the mook mechas even while Kurou is at his absolute weakest.
Shantak (I think that's it): Lets Demonbane fly. He doesn't need it normally because he can already fly in Magius Form.
Timaeus/Critias: Shinguards for Demonbane that warp space/time, allowing him temporary bursts of speed. He can always use them to perform a powerful flying kick.
Shining Trapezehodren: Doesn't actually erase things from existence, but if he hits them with it, it warps them into an inescapable prison outside the universe.
I can't provide details about Athleta Aeternum because it's probably from the sequel.
Also, Kurou has access to low-level magic, which he mostly just uses to cancel out enemy spells and occasionally to set things on fire.
In terms of speed, pretty eh. Magius Form's fast but nothing absurd; Demonbane can reach supersonic speeds without much difficulty while it's flying, and is very fast during the burst of energy from the shinguards.

now on to this fight
I am no expert on Kurou but demonbane series also seems to be pretty hax at points.
As another posted Laharl is VERRRRRRY arrogant so that could be bad.

Anyway, my thinking of how this fight goes is that Kurou fights in Magius Form and gets stomped pretty hard, but Laharl just messes around with him and Kurou summons Demonbane. Then they fight for real, but I think Cthugha and Ithaqua can take Laharl. Then he blows up the planet in anger and Kurou just flies off because he can do that.

The most important facet of this match is how much Kurou talks before/during a fight and how likely he is to annoy Laharl before realizing that Laharl is tough enough to bring his Demonbane things into play.

Indeed, but Athleta Aeternum kinda works like that. It is exactly as "wut" as that makes it look. When the ability description is "summons every single possible mecha with all possible abilities, and then those that aren't possible too for funzies" you get headache-inducing stuff.

Well... In the VN yeah, but he's up against a whole lot of psychopaths most of the time. Unless Laharl threatens to blow up the planet or something, he'd be fairly restrained on the hero talk.
--
"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -Vaarsuvius, Order of the Stick
Oh, and his top level is strictly speaking probably as an Elder God, but that's not very well-known. I suspect given how ridiculous that Athleta Aeternum is that he's a lot stronger in the sequel, but I don't know anything about that.

Laharl's rants are more jerkish than villainous.

"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -Vaarsuvius, Order of the Stick
Well he hams it up, but he does talk about evil things.
I guess there's a question of does Kurou take him seriously when he talks about commanding the legions of hell and blah blah blah, if he does take him seriously, does he use that to go into goodie goodie rant mode or does he use it as a "hey this guy is for real time to use super robot thing."
And if he doesn't take him seriously is his reaction to ham it up in an over the top hero type way and/or mock Laharl.

Describe this Kurou guy's personality. Is he a super serious type? How smart is he? Does he have a sense of humor? Is he witty? Is he the type for performance?
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
In battle, probably pretty super-serious. He's not that bright. Sense of humor yes, but he shuts himself down when he's fighting. Not very witty. If by performance you are wondering whether he's inclined to show off, no.
--
"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -Vaarsuvius, Order of the Stick
So I'm thinking from that he's not likely to make fun of Laharl, and he's also not likely to go into a "ham goodie rant."
So what happens if he doesn't take Laharl seriously? Does he just fight and try to ignore him? Does he try and reason with Laharl or try and convince Laharl to stop fighting since he looks like a kid? Laharl's probably not going to open up with attacks-- is Kurou going to come out swinging if Laharl doesn't? If they're talking and Laharl tells him something like "HAHAHAHA! Kneel and you will be spared of my wrath!" what is his reaction?
