So VH1 did their top songs of the 2000s and like you guessed it was awful. I talked to Rusty and I'd like to compile our own list between He, Giggs, Icon, and Myself.

We each submit 25 songs then rank them 1-100 and compile the list based on averages between the lists. We split the write-ups between us or I can just give a small write-up for songs 100-11 and we can split the Top 10.

Let me know if you're up for it or have any ways of improving my idea.

The purpose of this list is for my blog. I watched VH1s countdown with a lot of people and they told me they'd prefer 100 songs from me so I decided I'd do it.

noted. i'm not a massive fan anyway, but thoughts on that new mastodon? i don't think i've seen a single person eulogizing about it but it has a remarkably high rating on RYM for an album that seemingly no one cares about.

it's such a soft record. mastodon never were the heaviest band out there, but take off their edge, and they're just a cheesy rock band with terrible lyrics. metal albums always get a huge bump on RYM, especially around release. hard to judge fan reception there.

eh, i guess. the haters are usually just as vociferous as the fans, though, so it sorta balances out. you'll never see a "real" metal album actually stay atop the yearly charts, for instance.

there's at least one metal album in the top 10 for every year in the last decade! most albums that hit the top 10 get a ton of flack, so that's not something exclusive to metal. for all its positives, RYM has an awful community.

"real" metal is obviously a stupid, elitist way of putting it, but i was talking primarily about extreme metal. mainly to differentiate something like the last esoteric album, that hit the top of the charts then got downrated to hell and back from, say, crack the skye, which did receive widespread acceptance but was basically a 70s prog album pretending to be metal.

i enjoy both albums, as it happens, but they're not really the same thing.
