Not wanting to mod my Wii is a pretty good excuse.
While no actual modding is required(you only need to do some software tricks), I see the point. However in that case, play it on the Dolphin emulator on your PC. It's completely legal as it doesn't require a BIOS file, assuming you use a legit copy of the game.
Also, you can run homebrew without actually hacking your wii (IE. leaving no trace of it or w/e, and next time you turn your wii on it'll be like nothing happened)

it's always been stupidly easy and also pretty much necessary because hacked brawl is basically the only worthwhile game on the wii, it's just silly that you have to import the only good game nintendo is bothering to release in a 2 year timeframe
